I'll be looking for a company to train with after I finish commercial driving school next summer. I've read enough in the Trucking Forum to know which companies to avoid at all costs. What I'm mostly interested in is a good (not perfect) company that I can begin to investigate and communicate with now even though I will not be ready to get into their program until July of next year. Has anyone out there had any luck with company recruiters being willing to talk to you, knowing that you would not be coming on board right away? I know some of the recruiters from the "driver mills" would probably talk to me now but I've been "around the block" too long (55 years old) to waste my time listening to hype!!

Don't believe any recruiters. They are not there for you, they work to get into a company and could care less what you what.
JustSonny Thanks this. -
Between now and next summer, attend any and all truck shows and visit with recruiters/fellow attendees/sales people/ etc. GATS is the biggie in Louisville, Ky. Another is in Dallas, Tx. Another in Las Vegas, NV. A few more small ones, also. (Pomona, Ca) Gather info. Knowledge is power! Live, eat, breathe, #^%# trucking. You seriously want to be a trucker, then be serious in your search.
kickin chicken and JustSonny Thank this. -
Hey Allow Me,
That's what I wanted to hear and from someone (with 32 years in trucking) I believe I can trust. I'm very serious about this career move and I'm afraid that I'll be kicking myself in the butt for not doing it earlier in my working life. Oh well, at least I can give it all I've got for the rest of the time the Good Lord lets me work.
