I don't know about 1200 miles out and back .
But the job you are describing is a power only job.

What you do is pick up trailers and deliver them to customers .
A normal move would be something like picking up a new trailer at Great Dane in Brazil In and taking it to a dealer in Charlotte NC and dropping there.
Then you might do something like bounce up to Atkins VA to Utility trailer pick up a new refer and take it a dealer in Chicago IL . And so on and so on.

I have not hauled a load of freight in going on 19 years but I have hauled allot of empty wagons all over the country.

This seems like something I would be interested, you know of any companies in Indiana that might do something like this and will hire a newbie.

i just keep looking at all types of Jobs on here. I am in no real hurry as I am working and living in South Korea at this time and hope to move back to Indiana soon and possible career change.

    thanks for the info.

Oh no are you telling me I have to do a Pretrip. That's just not fair, that is asking way too much. Next thing you guys will be telling me I have to pump my own fuel.

You say " Unions breed laziness " DOD Contractor Camp Humphries , South Korea 2006 to present maintaining U.S. Army airplanes (Why don't the Army maintain their own aircraft ???) I'm just sayin. :)
Never been in the military but kept their airplanes flying for many years. Traveled all over the world working for them, been in a lot of bad places and a lot of good places and have been threatened by North Korea for the last 8 years including a nuclear attack.
So all in all I am not really complaining, I am just asking about " Trucking " something I think I might enjoy. And after years of working out in the heat and the cold on flight lines all over the world well I guess I am just looking for something a little easier on this old body :)
Have a great day and keep up the good post, I love a sense of humor.

Ignore the naysayers dennisroc! Unlikely the drivers giving you a hard time have the work history you have, travelling the world and getting paid for it, plus your privately owned airplane sitting at the house.

dennisroc...I think when you get back to Indiana you will not have to go OTR. Now if that is what you want then hey more power to you...BUT...look around you could land a sweet gig in your area.

dennisroc, I understand your concerns about NOT wanting to be a flatbed driver. I've been in this particular gig for almost 3 years now and it's some of the toughest work I've ever done. The tarps I use are heavy, dirty and there's the need to get up ON TOP of the load to spread them out. Granted I don't tarp every load, but it's a major pain when I have to.
Throwing the straps can be a challenge in windy weather. They HAVE to go over to the top of the load. And there's the chance of slipping off either the load or the floor and landing with a thud on the ground. That happened to me almost 2 years ago...and it HURT! I happened to land on concrete. OUCH!
I'm home every day and off weekends as my work is local, but doing this type of work isn't for the faint of heart. Right now, my company is in the slow season and my hours are down. That's got me discouraged.

The whole point of this post that I'm sharing is to weigh your options carefully, post questions so that we can can help you find what you need. I think I can say that we're rooting for you and wishing the very best in whatever you choose to do out here.

Keep us posted and all the best!

Yes, it's cold here & I'm getting fat & lazy because of it. Right now I'm in Beijing listening to the wife gripe; cold here but not anything like in Korea. The coldest I've ever been in my life was in Korea during the winter, but fortunately that was just a few days. Made up for it though in the White Horse bar in Hong Kong, feeling no cold or pain after a couple hours.

My wife is in the Philippines having some work done on our house, she was talking how hot it was and having the aircon on. I told her I was freezing here. She is coming back to Korea Jan 3 and then I am flying to Angeles city (Clark airbase) Philippines for a little R&R for 10 days , will be happy to get in some warm weather for awhile :). Been to Hong Kong but not the White Horse Bar. Went to Bangkok last march, great time. We are hoping to plan a trip to China this year for a short trip,i think our visa's are like $ 180 EACH .OUCH
