Well smaller the lift, or lobe. Less the valve opens. Not failed, but not proper.

Only a idea, I'm no expert. I could be completely wrong. But I lived through the 11.1 litter detroit flat cam issues of 2001. Has a similar description.

Cam looks fine, there is even lift on all rocker arms. When i checked the lash and injector height i watched them all and are the same.

    Gotcha.. tomorrow I will try.

Was gone a week, back looking at it. Here is the smooth running side manifold... probably why it sounds so smooth as most the exhaust wasnt going through it. He is going to clean it and sandblast it and I will try and TIG weld it with some nickel rod... depending on how it works anyone know a source to find a replacement? Looks as if the right side and left side are the same, just flipped, they both com out straight. manifold.jpg

Repairing that is a bad idea and should only be done as a last resort.

Ya it is the last resort. Searched everywhere for one.. no luck. It does not look fun. In a previous life i did high pressure natl gas pipe welding to pass xray and earthquake requirements.. Done lots of misc cast iron repairs... but this pic just looks so old and brittle... Dumbest design manifold I've ever seen. You cant fit a socket on the nuts, cant even fit the closed end of a wrench on, had to use open end and their chinese wrenches flexed and rounded the nuts, borrowed good american made ones and they did the trick. I think i can get it back into shape, I would like to put o-ring grooves around the flanges and put some .020 guitar string in or something to bite into the gasket so as much clamping force isnt needed... as i dont think i can return it to 100% strength...... Had to order nickel filler rod, no one around here carries it, not even Airgas or welder supply. Have to wait till that arrives.

That manifold swoops down... you can access all the bolt easy... The one I need is straight out.... where i think the left and right side are the same just flipped.
