I’m getting ready to buy a 2008 Volvo Vnl 780 with a Cummins which what I prefer. I could do without the 10-speed that comes with it. I like a 13-speed for hills and even the 780 can be small for a guy that’s 6’2” like me but you get used to it.
Any 2016 Volvo 670 owner's out there?

Mine is 670 2009 with Cumins 400hp boosted to 450 13 speed. Just hit 1 million yesterday.
I've used this size for over 10 years now including OTR driving, I'd go for 770 next time if I go Volvo. I always prefer manual 13 - speed transmission. At least I can pull start it when I have to.
The dpf/def will inevitably give headaches. I would preemptively renew it - bake it or replace it including the 7th injector with all the other sensors, clean EGR too. It ain't cheap, especially at a Volvo dealer or Cumins - a few grand - but if left alone, it will give problems. -
I'm Volvo lover but I had Coronado 1 month ago, got myself an 2016 Volvo with 350Kon it.Found out that is cranking longer then normal, shaking when not pulling hard and oil leak between engine and transmission, truck is in the Volvo shop for 8 days so far got 2 or 3 more to go to be ready for the road again.
Shacking and cranking was from Injectors, oil leak from timing plate how they call it, to me is rear engine main seal. Thank got truck had extended factory warranty still. -

You could spend $15-20k on repairs and Maintenance your 1st year. You’ll have to fix what was found in the pre-purchase inspection as well as what wasn’t found. On top of shaking the bugs & cob webs out of the truck. -
Check the idle time. If it's high don't touch it. The new engines do not like to idle. MAINTAIN the emission systems well and the Volvo is the only emission truck I'd touch. They seem to have it sorted the best.

I have a 2012 670. At the mileage you are considering I would check to see if the fuel injectors have been done as this is a common need but otherwise a good overall package, in my humble opinion. As for the after-treatment system, Volvo has recently announced that the system is deteriorating faster than expected and may not meet emission standards. They are considering a recall. However, they state this does not affect engine performance. Apparently, this is a common issue for most of the other manufactures as well.
