My best winter driving advise is 1. If you don't feel comfortable, don't do it and park the truck! 2. If you choose to drive in the winter weather DO NOT drive in the rest of the pack! Pack driving (2 or more vehicles side by side and not passing quickly) in any weather is very dangerous, if one blows a tire can you stop in time or avoid the other vehicles? Most often you you end up tangled up in a accident, especially in the winter weather. 3. If another truck passes you doing 70 while you are driving 30 with your flashers on, stay your course and DO NOT increase your speed to 70, it will only get you a close look at the comedian. And lastly 4. If you are going to drive in winter weather in a state that has a chain law, make sure you have your chains on the truck. If chains are required and you choose to drive, PUT THE CHAINS ON AS REQUIRED! Oregon starts their fines for leaving the roadway in winter weather when chains are required at $2,500.

    Yeah

    RELAX and drive sanely

Don't drive like you will get into an accident at any second, but make sure you look out for others who can't drive.

The most dangerous drivers on a winter road are either the idiots who ignore the conditions and think it is a bright sunny warm summer day or those who are overly cautious and scared. Both are accidents that will involve others, maybe fatally.

Watch the other trucks and take it a notch slower. (along with all the other advice on this thread). Also leave extra room in front of you.

if its ice,,,just pull off at the next truck stop and sleep...its not worth driving on 15 mph, you gain nothing but maybe an accident..if its snowing so bad its hard to see, same advice...your safety and others is worth more than that load.....15 -25 mph in blizzards....not me...

^^^... not to mention that if you continue to drive at 15 mph you are eating up your 70 at 15 mph. I'd rather park, then wait until conditions warrant faster speed so I can use my 70 to the best advantage.

When you drive down a grade with ice or snow, your not supposed to use your engine brake right? What speed is good for going down a 6% grade in ice or snow? I drive an 8 speed Peterbilt with a 53' dry van.

Slower than you may think. 6% is a strong grade on slick roads. You shouldn't be on flat roads with ice. Snow has some grit but not much if there is ice under it. Take it very, very easy until you get a winter under your belt. You wanna be around to see your second winter.

Well if its heavy snow picture someone walking beside your truck and you talking to him out the window, a little faster with chains. If it is ice 0mph is a good speed without chains.
