Placards are required for any quantity of table 1 hazmat and for any quantity over 1001 pounds of table 2. Where did you get the 8800 lbs figure?
This is a typical day coming out of California for me. So advice. 1. Paperwork must in door or within reach of seatbelt driver. You look any further than door or passenger you will get ticket. 2. Always properly affix placard with clear tape. Do not think because they are in a holder that they will not come out. 3. Form and matter on your paperwork will get you. It is very precise learn remember and be a stickler for it. 4. You are responsible for proper securing of the load. If you do not watch them or are allowed to inspect the must in writing verity that they have my meet all laws, regulations and requirements pertaining to that load. Otherwise you will be the one hung out to drive. 5. Lots of hazmat goes in totes, if you do not have a tanker endorsement you can not haul these. 6. Your EMERGENCY RESPONSE GUIDE or EGR book must be in reach the same as paperwork. 7. Never ever take anything for granted no matter how many times you have hauled it. 8. Be aware D.O.T. will see you, pay attention to you, and you will be inspected more often. Keep your truck up not appearance wise mechanical. Tons and tons of things to pay attention to those are just some. Good luck. Oh never trust a customer always double check everything they tell you. They have a list of responsibilities too the must follow. Learn them also.
Some confustion here. You are correct PLACARDS are required exactly as you stated. The chart that was posted says ID NUMBERS, the UN or NA number is also required if the weight of any one item is over 8800 pounds (if not already required as a bulk packaging).
That wasn't clean harbors. Our great friends at Veolia provided that days entertainment. As I have 7 placards from them today.
Once I became an owner operator and saw the rates that they were paying to haul toxic waste I decided it wasn’t worth my time.
As a company driver, doing and going pretty much where I want to go. Making a good living. And never spending time at grocery warehouses. I enjoy it. Suits my personality. And the companies get good rates they just don't pass it down to the owner ops.
The one I'm going to work for cares. He mortgaged his house and his dad mortgaged his house too in order to start this company. They have an incentive not to screw it up. And I don't want to screw it up either because I want to get paid a salary. Also: simple lanes.
