Fuelbook is a free app that shows you the cheapest places to fuel on your current route. It can also factor in your company discounts and fuel tax in or out. The fuel tax is important because some companies pay it for you and others only file it for you, but you pay it. You need to know which your company does before you buy any fuel. If they pay it then buy the cheapest pump price, if you pay it factor the tax out when buying fuel.
Every mile per hour slower saves one tenth of a gallon. If I am not in a hurry I run 60-65, but some days you may make more money by running a little faster to get the next load.
Low rolling resistance tires are a big fuel savings item. Generally the more expensive tires such as Michelin have lower RR but Yokohama now has low RR tires.
I agree with others opinion that lease purchase is generally a bad deal for the driver/lease operator from what I have heard from others. That doesn't mean you can't be profitable with it or won't go broke, many factors will determine which one happens. I became an owner op for the first time at 23 and learned a lot, but made very little money. After spending the next 27 years working for a few large premium companies making great money investing and saving my money, I paid for a new rig and am very glad I did.
In my case the knowledge of doing it wrong the first time, working for companies who did it right and learning from them helped me to do it right this time.
Yes I am long winded, but there could be a lot more at risk than just some fuel money depending on what you do and how you do it. Good luck with your future choices.Sol-dier, dunchues, driverdriver and 1 other person Thank this. -
