I'm from Sarasota and have had a few loads close enough were I was able to make a booty call
, it does happen but if your just starting out count on being out 4-5 weeks. , should avg 2700 miles. The money is not spectacular, but decent compared to other otr co. , and yes my family has made some drastic changes but the company is top notch, I'm x navy and conway is a good fit for vets, great work ethic, sure nothings perfect but I made a good career choice. If you don't have a cdl yet read my posts in the school section" finally starting Mid Florida tech " and check out" Conway tl student orientation", should give u a good idea what to expect,
No tuition reimbursement , med insurance for a family not the greatest, my wides covers the kids I just use there ins for myself. -
I thought that they did do some tuition reimbursement if you go to the Crowder school?? Am I wrong on that?

Well I've been lurking here long enough, so decided to get an account and put my 2 cents in!
First, thanks for this and the other threads about Con-way TL I have read ALL 26 pages of this thread and most of the pages of the other ones and it persuaded me that of all of the companies who take on students right out of school, Con-way is by far the best! I have been reading and researching companies and schools for over a month (thank god for the Internet!) and this forum has really helped me in knowing which companies to look into further and which ones to stay far away from (can anyone say "CR England"?) LOL. Up until I started reading the Con-way threads I had pretty much determined that Schneider was the company to go with, but all of the great things that nearly everyone has to say about Con-way changed my mind. I have read almost no bad reviews of this company and that can't be said for any of the other so called "starter" companies. In fact after everything I've read, I wouldn't call them a "starter" company because it looks like they actually want to keep good drivers instead of drive them away!
So yesterday I filled out the online application and sent it out and today I got a call from a recruiter! I was surprised to get a call from them so quickly. Anyway, she asked me if I have gone to any school yet and I told her that I hadn't and had wanted to talk to them before deciding on a school and that from what I had read, Con-way preferred their student-drivers to attend Crowder College. She told me that they accept students from any approved school, but that they only offer partial tuition if I attend Crowder.
So now they are checking out my employment history and personal references and as long as all that comes back good - which it will - then it's off to MO for training in October!Katey Thanks this. -
I think you will be happy will your choice down the road Starbuck.
I was in a similar position last Nov. and I went thru Crowder and have now been driving team here since April. If you have any questions you haven't seen answered on here feel free to post em or send me a pm. I would love to help you in any way I can
Keep us updated on your journey! -
Don't know if things have changed since you attended Crowder last year, but Katurah told me that I have to pay $2,200 out of pocket and CWTL pays the rest. I say that because I have read in other posts that the out of pocket cost was $1,900, so I guess costs have gone up. OK, so a couple of questions on Crowder: Will I be staying in a motel or a dorm room on campus? How many to a room? I assume that the school runs 5 days a week, so if I don't drive my car from Las Vegas to MO, how do students get around on the weekends? 5 weeks is a long time to be without a car so I am considering driving, but if I do that means having to get my car back to Vegas before going through orientation.... I'd rather get everything done - including the time with a trainer as quickly as possible.
I'm really not too worried about the course itself. Not sure if the skid pad is still down due to FEMA trailers setup nearby (at least that's what I read in other posts). I hope it is back in service though....
More later.... -
Good and probably the best place to start, but far from perfect. Prepare yourself well to be utilized how They see fit not how you would see fit. Like most new drivers, I wanna run all I can, but it's not gonna happen that way. You Are gonna spend many weekends, usually at no pay, babysitting the equipment. Sometimes longer. Twice on this trip out, I have spent 60 consecutive hours parked, not making a dime, cause I was under loads with way too much time on them. This is not a knock on Con-way, it's a knock on OTR. I am sure it happens at all OTR companies but I find it extremely frustrating. Trust me, it's alot easier to spend weeks away from your family when you are kept busy.

So who knows about the other "partnership" program Con-way has in Detroit? Is it subsidized? Is it a "no boot camp" program like Crowder?
-
You are the first poster I have seen that suggests a Con-way partnership with anyone other than Crowder. So you're probably gonna have to ask the company.
