I would call driver recruiting at 800-641-4747 to see what type of driver positions are available out of Joplin...being you are so close to the terminal there maybe something that would not require Canada...I've been Once in 3 months ...my co-driver has not been at all in 7+ so it's kinda like the lotto....Xls just got very unlucky (maybe he broke a mirror or something LOL)

Paul, I believe in Full Disclosure. These fine perspective drivers have the liberty to call and confirm our posts. I encourage them to do so. Pretty sure they appreciate current and former drivers sharing Honest accounts as to our experiences and info on company policies. My experience was 6 seperate dispatches into Canada with the last 3 in February 2012. I've "Heard Of" companies starving a driver out but repeated dispatches to Canada as a method of dissuading drivers continued employment seems a bit Far Fetched. IMO.

on #4, you can highlight after 7 days out, then they have 8 days to get you home. You might get there in 3, or 5, or 8....just depends where you are. You get one day off for every 7 days out. You can take as many days off, up to 9 in a row( if you have that many banked), without permission from your fleet manager. Anymore than 9 requires approval from your FM.

Do your job here and keep in touch with your FM and you won't have any problems. Who cares how many times you go to Canada, or where you're from? Sorry if I'm blunt, but you signed up to do a job, not make decisions about what runs you'll take and what you won't. It's funny, people bitxx about Canada, TSC, the NE and all the rest. Miles are miles, and you're supposed to be a professional driver. Funny how no one ever complains about getting VA to CA, but won't do the other runs in between that need to be done too. We all pay our dues here. Some of my best checks have been weeks with TSC runs, and NE pay with Canada crossings and all. You can't get a job at McDonalds and tell them you're not going to make french fries, why is trucking any different?

You guys are taking a Positive thread with very good helpful information to perspective drivers and muddling it up with unhelpful Attack posts like ^ this one. EVERY new driver faces challenges early in their careers as we are entering unfamiliar territory. Most of us can't predict exactly how things will go. Notice that the Two perspective drivers on the previous page Both thanked me for my posts. The only negativity is coming unwarranted from current Con-way Drivers. If I wasn't Attacked there'd be no need to respond.

It's a free country last time I checked. Give it time, you'll see thanks on my post too. You yourself said you wanted to provide honest information, which is all I gave. My info is not negative, it's the truth. I'm just providing info from another new driver ( been here since May, 2011). Like I said, I just think it's funny when people try and dictate where and when they're going, when they knew UPFRONT, that they had to do Canada, NE, two weeks out , whatever. It shouldn't matter where you go, or when.

All I said was call recruiting....he lives 20 mi from Joplin...as Florida drivers we have only one position choice OTR 48 states plus Canada....he may be offered regional or even a dedicated job. I'm went to Brampton ont. Once so far..was it fun? Not much lol..no cell service that would of cost 2.99 a min for roaming...waited 24 hrs after unloading to pick up...then had to pick up 3 stops..then find a fax for clearance .....but it's part of the job ..so we go get it done.
