Hey all. Thinking about switching to Conway TL and had a few questions. Do your earned time off days accumulate over time? i.e. 6 weeks out = 6 days off, use 4 and keep the other 2 in the "bank" Also, does Conway have drop yards and terminals all over? I know its an odd question but I plan on taking my hometime away from home and seeing this nation of ours. Before anyone gets their feathers all ruffled up, I can do this with my current carrier but they only let you take 4 days at a time. I was hoping to have the option of taking more if I wanted. I also understand this is not paid time off, so save the lectures. As much as I hate to assume, I would venture to guess that as long as the truck is parked at a secure location (ie drop yard, terminal) it wouldn't be a problem. If any of you current Conway drivers wanted to go the extra mile for your buddy cableguy and pose that question to your FM, I sure would appreciate it and would even consider putting you on my Christmas list. :) Thanks in advance!

At Con-way you can bank your days off (up to 30 or 31?). Conway truckload only has a handful of terminals, but there are hundreds of conway freight yards and many allow us to park there. You will need to get approval from the property owner before taking time off at a location other than your home or terminals.

For example, I took a few days off in Sacramento (not my hometown) but the conway freight yard there didnt have any available places to park so I had to get the manager of a nearby truckstop to give conway approval for me to park there 4 days. Took a few phone calls, but not a big deal...

One more note-- we are not allowed to disconnect from trailers during time off (no bobtailing around).

edit: I lied, another note-- if your batteries are dead after hometime, you're resposible for jumping the truck (unless you take hometime at a terminal).

Thanks DL. I would try for a Conway facility just for peace of mind. That was exactly the info I was looking for. Much appreciated.

Note I have 44 days off currently banked up

Don't think there is a limit.

You can always extend home time with a trip to the dealer ;)

You can bank as many days as you want, but can only use up to 30 without cleaning your truck out, or getting rehired, without prior approval. You can take off anyhwere as long as you have permission to park there, and they will check, unless it shows on the computer as an approved parking area. You can bobtail from any terminal except Joplin to use the truck as personal conveyance, for up to one hour per day. If your truck is in the shop, your days off do not come from your accrued time off. All time off needs approval from your FM, but usually is never a problem. Only had one time in two years that I didn't make it home on time, and I didn't really care because I was making money and still moving. Communication is essential if you NEED to be somewhere.

Thanks for all the great info guys, I did quite a bit of research on the company prior to making my commitment to Rt66 CDL for school then on to CWTL for my career choice. I am experienced but have been out of a truck for almost 20 years. Looking forward to getting back on the road with CWTL. See you guys in January, I start school the 30th of December.

Did you inquire about Crowder in Joplin ? Or do you get a grant from Colorado ?

I was in your shoes , 2.5 yrs ago ....out of trk for 11 yrs ...I went to work for an owner operator for 6 months ....then Conway TL ...saved me the $chool $$$$

been here for two yrs tomorrow !

I'm working on getting a grant from Colorado...I won't find out my eligibility for another week or so. The school is on the approved list so hopefully I can still get there this month. Crowder isn't on the list for approved training through Colorado...

Glad to know you have been there 2 years, congrats...seems like there is so much turnover in the industry, it took a while to find a good company but I think I may have made the right choice. I was with Swift for almost 2 years when I first started, then was with USXpress for another 6 years....good company to work for but I really like the idea that Con-Way doesn't make you drive as a team with your trainer. I never could figure that out, how do you learn anything from a trainer that is asleep? Just my opinion.

Thanks again....glad to hear so much good info about the company
