not trolling, i am saying there are plenty of jobs that pay decent, you just have to take THOSE jobs
You get what you are worth, and your bad life decisions are not anyone's fault but your own. You got felonies and dui's then guess what? bad choices have consequences. I dont want to be harsh, but anyone in that situation isnt a good candidate to make decent money. In ANY field.
Also, you make what you demand. If you settle for #### money, sure you will get #### money. But thats your fault for doing it. I would NEVER take a job that pays less than 40K a year.
Any chance of starting out making $50,000?

God for what you're making? Stay put.
Oh and FL is a trucking graveyard, it's a net importer of freight, so you'd have a hard time getting loads.
How close are you to retirement at your company? If they give you a pension at 20 years tough it out for the next 7 and try later.
The pay for trucking might be better in 7 years too, and your kids might be out of school.Tator Tot Thanks this. -
It depends where you live. Only go local or regional with tankers. Make sure you get your hazmat, the average driver hauling crude oil in texas makes 70k to 100k per year. Last year I made 200k with my truck hauling crude oil. Dont listen to any of these peopl you have to think outside the box, never work otr. The food service industry is also a high paying industry . I know when I lived in Atlanta I worked for coke and made $55k my first year than I worked for US foods most of their drivers make $65k to 90k per year. You can also haul gas and make 60k to 80k a year. Again dont listento otr drivers us local and regional guys have it good.

Yes, I'm only making 45k but my company sucks. First job out of school. My buddy from school is making 65k but his company works in the DC area so higher pay. I've recently added HAZMAT/ Tank and Doubles/Triples, once TSA actually gets the thing on my license more money is waiting for me. I've talked to a few companies and they are offering mid 60's for 2nd year drivers. I should mention I drive locally and home every night, also the jobs im looking into are also local home nightly jobs. I can't understand why people give up their lives to go OTR for 35k! What a slap in the face. But as long as people are insane enough to work for that, carriers will continue to abuse people.
