Coca Cola Refreshments just bought out the independent coke bottler I work for in Sacramento. At coke I am a 16 bay sideloader driver and enjoy it. Now that CCR/CCE bought us out I don't know how it will be. My question to anyone out there that can answer it is, How is being a driver at CCR/CCE? How is the pay, management and work load? Will the change be good or bad?
Any coke drivers out there?

Just like any other big distribution company you're just meat in the seat. You get the route done in your 14 and your good. Pay varies from state to state and union and non union shops, so you'll have to get that from someone a little closer to you. Management (in my opinion) is stretched a little to thin for what corporate wants out of them. So at least in my facility I thinks theres an understanding how hard the job can be and they won't hold you to the occasional mistake. They're in the process of switching from the 16 bay sideloads to liftgate trailers which is changing the whole delivery routing process. Most drivers here don't like it but sometimes change is hard to swallow.
YOUNGSTER Thanks this. -
How many cases a day do you average? Do you have a log book? Liftgates makes it easier right? We are teamsters at this facility. Which one do you work for?

Yeah, were already using the lift gates where I'm at, and my average work day is about 500 cases and i do it in between 10 to 12 hours. Any other questions hit me up

Case counts vary so much between the routes and I'm sure with your experience already with the 16 bays, you know how the littlest problems can affect the day. Example- throwin 600 cases in 6hrs with and the next day gettin a 400 case route and be out the 14. Seems to depend on timed stops, what customers need merchandising and how much, and how well you know your route. So the logs get used when your over 12 hours or out over a hundred fifty mile radius. For awhile there they went back and forth with logging everything everyday but now its just the 12/150. If I get pulled over by local DOT or get scaled I'll tell I'm local driving and thats seems to be good enough. In my opinion liftgates are the way to go, you can bring the pallets right to the door saving all that walking back and forth. Also allows you to padlock everything down at one time preventing theft. Some drivers don't like these liftgates because they're longer and require a little more patience and planning when parking. We're also teamsters (local 688) but my understanding is that every facility/area bids a separate contract so pay and benefits differ, sometimes radically.

Thank you for all this information. I have only heard good things about liftgates and im looking forward to getting away from a 16 bay
Do you have a lot of drops on your route, and does corporate coke make you merch everything? My route has a lot of cases but also has a lot of drops. Does everyone start at the same time or can you choose? Do you get your 40 hours guaranteed? Do they have a lot of turnover at your plant?

What plant do you work out of? Do you like it?
