If I got my CDL from a school, how hard would it be to get on with Gordon? There is a drop yard close to me in London, KY. Also, I think but I may be wrong, there is a big warehouse in Knoxville, TN about an hour from me. I would commute. How big of sticklers are they on sleep apnea though? Also, I am 29. Do they generally like to hire younger drivers than me? Will my age hurt me? And, I know it sounds weird but, do they like to hire bigger people lol. I am 6'6 390. I know some places say they don't discriminate against size, but you just never hear from them after the interview if you know what I mean...

The warehouse is in Shepardsville, Kentucky we don't have any warehouse in TN. As far as 29 goes that's not a problem at all that's right where they would want you.
Sleep apnea that's on you and your DOT doctor, GFS is not a trucking company and while we do play by the same rules as the bigger companies we don't play by the same rules as the bigger companies, it's different then Swift, Werner, etc etc not even the same ball park.

Were a private fleet hauling our own goods it's a completely different world.

Um as far as big people go, they used to like to hire big people because it meant you could unload. We have a guy at my yard who they hired a couple months ago who's a little on the bigger side. We've had big guys, actually GFS would probably slim you down some if you wanted to know the truth. It's a lot of work and a lot moving around. Average GFS driver walks about 8-10 miles a day. When it's all said and done we all walk close to about 60 miles a week.

You do have to do a strength test at GFS which isn't a big deal as long as you can pass it with in there parameter's it's alright. Customer service is very important to GFS, getting stuff right. I think not to long ago London, did have an opening for van driver or something.

No apply now don't wait till 33 that's way unnecessary. I'm younger then you are and I've worked there for almost 2 years now. Age there isn't the number one thing they look at, they look at experience and more of your personality and what kind of person you are and do you fit there mold and values. I mean heck last year they hired a guy who's in his mid 40's. We've got 2 other guys who are both in there 50's and one guy who's getting ready to retire he's in his late 50's early 60's. We have all across the board the younger guys like my self and probably 4-5 others are all in our late 20's. Then our managers there all in there mid-30's and then the senior drivers are usually 40's-50's.

I am going to at least have to wait till I am 30. I am going to save up the money for a year to go to school.

    Mike2633 Thanks this.

Well that all makes sense. They don't have anything right now in Kentucky anyhow.

Beer places would be your easiest bet, hire as a helper and you could very well get training through a beer company if you could get on even if you have to start in the warehouse just tell them about what you want to do. I did the beer thing for a little while didn't like it, but that's just me it was a start.
