I have been looking at the bigger OTR carriers to get my start, but wonder if there are any local Co. that take on student drivers?
I want to do otr to learn as much as I can, but would hate to overlook something that may be here in Mass. Thanks

I live in DE but was living in MA (North shore area) when I started the process. I am at Prime right now and was accepted while I was in MA. Life stepped in and I had to move back to my house in DE.

When I sorted out the personal issues it really did not matter. They did not care where I lived. When I want to go home they would work me that way and get me home.

Do your research. I researched for about 3 months and settled on Prime and Roehl. 2 main reasons I chose Prime. They allow pets and their training is long. Remember, do research, I am only a student but I am not disappointed at the moment.

    Good luck.

the best part about mass is it is on the way to nh. family has lived in newburyport since 1650's. that said go out OTR see the country get experience then you can get that local gig driving ABF freight around east boston. 38 years fishing out of Gloucester I saw it all as long as it was on the ocean but 3 months ago I saw my first tumblweed heading for california tumble avross the highway. In Arizona I kept looking around at the mesas waiting for John Wayne the indians or the calvary to show up

Thanks guys! I have been researching all of the bigger carriers since Sept 2011, and Roehl is my #1 choice. I have not applied yet as I am waiting on my test date, which should be this Sunday. Received pre hires already from Werner, Trans AM, Swift..but I am not 100% on any of those, still on the fence. Prime was my #2, but I see the do not do transgender training and waiting on a female trainer can take many months. Millis is my #3.
I shall keep at my research. Thanks again for your thoughts! This site rocks!

Been to a big food distributor in Taunton called Agar. Not sure if they do OTR or just regional/local deliveries. Was a good sized company with a lot of trucks.

I would be cautious at going to KB, I was going to since it was so close till I saw drivers flipping out often about fuel cards being maxed out and having to call the company to have more money put on. Before I left I kept hearing about them losing contracts and what not. This was all Bar/Truck Stop talk so 50/50 if it was true but I did hear it from their own drivers as well as other local company drivers enough that I didn't bother applying.

Agar is ALWAYS hiring, and that even means students. Problem though, they will work you to death, which is why, they are always hiring, much like the CVS account in R.I.

ive been with kb about 3 months now and yes they have a lot of problems because of the economy but as far as fuel cards are concerned i've had my problems with them but over time i just figured out how to plan my fueling and now every once in a blue my card wont work but they've never left me stranded...

maintenance....is simple if its small u fix it if its major they have no problem getting up to the shop...i treat my ride as if i was an owner op they pay for the parts i do the small stuff. i dont mind doing this because i figure its good practice if i buy my own rig someday...i have my own tools and i keep plenty of spare parts/ tire plugs on board at all times

for me good company but for others i can see it not working out for
