You don't want to get it rebuilt. You want to swap it out with a re-manufactured Weller. Plenty of shops are Weller approved. Going to cost about $6,000 including labor.

Sorry, can't help you there. The Detroit guys I knew way back have retired and disapeared. Man.... they sure knew how to set up a 8V92 back then. Goodluck.

Yes, I will probably swap it, but why the price is so high? Rebuilt transmission with core exchange is like $2000. Do they charge $4000 for labor? What about 10 speed auto?

I don't think you would find one for $2,000. Maybe one out of an existing truck and not rebuilt. I just went through this with my Fuller 10 speed. You can find a rebuilt one for around $3,500 BUT.....they only replace what needs to be replaced. Weller replaces everything to brand new. On top of the transmission you need the following.

    Labor. $1,000
    Clutch brake
    resurface
    New clutch maybe
    Shipping costs for transmission

And don't think about trading up to a 13 speed. It's a one for one swap. You want the 13 speed and that's going to be at least another $1,300

If your looking for an A #1 shop make your way out to Commerce City, CO to Stewart and Stevenson. The biggest shop you will ever see. Give the service manager a call and he can give you a ball park figure. Your old transmissions case can't be cracked either.

Either way you go your going to be at $5,000

I see a lot of guys recommend swap rather than rebuild, why is that? Is it because of the down time or rebuilds not done properly, warranty?
