In house hold we get paid percentage of line haul. Depending on the agent/carrier your with it can range from 72-78% of the retained revenue plus your extras.

The only nod of year numbers are big but so are your expenses. Are you looking to do house hold? It's a hard job with a lot to learn. If not done properly it can cost you big time in claims. Most of in the business started with family being in the business and learned from them. If you don't know how the best thing is to get with a hhg driver and be his dog for a couple of months at least. Learn every thing you can

54-56% of LINE HAUL (non of that retained revenue ########) 100% fsc, 90% packing material, 75% packing labor, 100% of accesorials.

It was a good haul before deregulation. In the mid seventies I cleared 2700 - 3300 monthly after all expenses. Leased a new tractor every 3 years. Air ride suspension too! ( not common in those days). I went to Van Line Car Carrier, made more because of no hired labor. cars were shipped at the same per hundred rate as the household goods.

It was still good up until the home market crashed. But from day 1 I heard from the old timers. Don't get into this game. There ain't no money left. (This was back in the late 80's)
But i laughed and said to myself. That old man is full of scrap. Last week I packed and loaded 18,000 lbs ran it from Boston to Washington dc. And took home $4000.
Problem is last week I told a young guy not to get into the game. He laughed at me and said. Old man last week I packed and loaded 26,000lbs and ran it from Boston to Daytona. And took home $4500.
Now you and I might scoff at him. But for a guy who biggest paycheck he ever saw was $800. He is thinking he is doing pretty #### good.
