CO would not be a good area for Helwig, and I doubt they would hire out of there. You will see Dodge City, KS a lot, but that's about as close to CO as they'll get. From there, 85% goes east, and occasionally will run to Southern Cal. They don't carry chains but I do know they have booked loads to WA to get a driver to his parents due to a serious family illness, otherwise CO and the NW'rn states is not areas they care to run in as they don't have the Dollar General freight back into TX and OK from there.

Sounds like a lot of that meat freight was like what i hauled back in the good ole days of trans am(pre-'99, back when they had the old hq just down the road from the current place, back when the drivers and fm's would all hang out on the smoking patio, before pussbrain mcelliot ruined that company), what endorsements are required? I live in upstate ny near i i86, not looking to apply yet, looking to get to the 1 year mark at my current company before i make any decision to stay there or go.

They (Helwig) don't require any endorsements as far as I know, however they do like to see hazmat as they have several accounts they do hazmat hauling for.

looks like ill be looking around possibly this fall when I get my vacation completed so I don't lose that 1 week paid, definitely considering helwig, I looked at their ad about the pay.....40 a mile sounds a lot better than the lying, rip-off percentage pay i'm working under now, I seen helwig's trucks have apu's on them and looks like nice equipment...plus hauls between tx and northeast don't sound bad.

Anyone know what the passenger policy is? And how the truck are outfitted, like interior, engine/transmission, governed speed, etc. not that I'm looking for a 100mph truck lol

I think passenger policy is wife (not sure about "girlfriend" or other family members), and dependent children 10 or older. Trucks are mostly Columbias less then 3 years old with typical "fleet specs" interior, APU with inverter, 66-67 MPH, engine brake, mostly cummins running about 450-470HP

Sounds good, and hauling the meat loads out of tx, dodge city ks and other places around there is basically what I'm looking to do again, I originally signed onto my current outfit to run those, but for the last few months I've been lucky if I even get as far west as michigan.

Beware! Helwig uses 1970's technology to calculate miles - HHG. They skim 6-10% on every run. So, on a 3000 mile week u only get paid for 2760 at 8% skim. Eack week, your 1st 240 mi/4 hrs are free to Helwig. They tout $.40/mi, but reality is $.37. Almost all fleet Mgrs are newbies from Stevens. GM squeezes every penny; he's Stevens too. Must stay out min 3 wks. Can only take 3 days off at a time. Huge driver turnover. Safety mgr is the most unreasonable person to deal with. Logs must be TOTALLY by the book. Home time is good if u live in n. Tx. Not the same company since it restarted. Used to be driver friendly. Now, it's all about the money.
