Once I heard about sitting at the stinky live kill plants I decided it wasn't for me.

Usually it is a drop trailer and go anywhere till they load it, which may take up to 24 hrs.. most cases 12-16. Don't have to sit there at the plant and sniff the stuff, if there is one.

You get use to the smell plus you don't gotta park at em if you don't wanna. We will use this load I'm on. 500 miles for the weekend but I needed a 34 anyway so why not stay on it instead of relaying and missing out on $400 just to sit here to deliver. Getting paid to do my 34 is the best lol

That's not true. Pulling a reefer has worked well for me. It doesn't matter what type of freight a driver hauls, there are going to be aspects of it that have a driver wondering if it is worth it. I am a rookie driver (coming up on a year), and my average gross is $1,400/week. I have talked to other rookie drivers with whom I went to school and none of them wanted to pull a "frozen box" for many of the reasons that you and others state. None of them are making what I am making right now. The caveat here is that I stay out on the road for months at a time. I have been home twice since I started last year. I actually just came back from hime time after being gone for 5 weeks. Anyway, reefer jobs CAN pay really well and the right company will make it worthwhile for a good driver to stay.

That's a pretty good job and pays pretty well. Never heard of an unhappy Tyson driver.

The private fleet was great to drive for. If they would change some stuff they would get more drivers.

What are things that you personally would point to in needing to be changed to attract more drivers?

While i was Tyson i did make good money but the wait times sucked at places. I Feel after 2 hours automatic Detention time should be paid. Its interesting after 2 hours as a Contract i get it but not a company driver? The Slip seating sucked towards my end of time with them my Mack went down and i brought another truck that was clearly sitting at a plant with windows down for some time. Had about 3 inches of dust all over and the Blow motors didnt work. Personally i feel it should be up the driver if they wanna slip seat when they go down. Shouldn't be forced My trucks are away from home so i spend time and set them up to my liking. Switching between trucks just isn't a thing for me. More shops should prob help them also SO many places they could have a Tyson shop to work on the trucks and trailers. The main ones are PA,NC,AR They should have mobile shop guys at some of the bigger plants to fix tires, lights, brakes. Better Spec trucks would also be a main thing. I'm not sure who orders there trucks but they aren't speced very well lol
