My commute is an exhaustive 6' past the corner of the garage, which is attached to the house. It really sucks when I get home and realize I forgot to bring something from the truck in with me...and even worse is when I get ALL OF THE WAY BACK to the truck, I can't remember what it was I turned around to go get. One of these days, I'll figure out how to park a little closer to home...this commute is KILLING me!

Are you a local driver? I wish I could bring my truck home. I live about 1000 feet from another one of our yards but it's just mixer trucks. I drive a Pneumatic- it would be cool to park there! -
Had the exact same 65 miles each way and 10-12 hours working 6 days a week for 3 yrs. Just recently quit and took a regional job.

I've been driving a day cab for well over 10 years...pneumatic tanks & end dumps for 8+, then flats, hoppers, and vans the last 2. Even before I bought my truck, I parked at the house 98% of the time...might spend 2-3 nights per year away from home. Used to operate almost exclusively inside of the 100 air-mile radius, but these days it's about 50/50 whether I'll stay inside or venture out a little farther. Very RARELY do I go more than 1/2 a days drive out before I start making my way back to the house.

I hear that. I don't even like San Jose. It's smoggy and gross. I'm there for the money though but i gotta work in that traffic the first 2 loads. Ah the Dumbarton, I was crossing that everyday taking loads of oil from Pittsburg or Benicia to Redwood City. I like it way better than the San Mateo-that bridge sucks. Sounds like you'll be training at Chevron, Shell, and Kinder Morgan in SJ. I drove for Valley Pacific. We only had three trucks so wave to those guys... If you see an old man driving a KW... He is a legend in this area. He trained me and we still hang out on some weekends and I help him out at home any chance I get. He went straight from Vietnam into gas hauling so he knows one or two things lol.moloko Thanks this. -
12.4 miles, about 25 minutes in moderate traffic. Couldn't imagine driving more than an hour to go to work to drive all day. Have you thought of moving closer? Is it possible?
I'd put up with the commute for a gig on that level though. I've got an amazing job myself and know the feeling of not wanting to leave for anything.
