I just moved from the midwest to southern Georgia. Looking for some advice/knowledge from anyone who has run log trucks in the south. Is there opportunity for a o/o to haul for loggers or do all loggers have enough trucks? Are they paid by load, load+miles or by miles? I know you are going to have problems with Dot and truck will get beat up but is there money and opportunity to be a log truck o/o?
Any logger truck drivers southeast?

Theres a million log trucks in middle tennessee hauling to bowater or stevenson alabama. In north carolina i see tons of pine pulp around uwharrie. I dont get south of atlanta but doubt GA is much different.
Ive never done it but known a few guys who did and they seemed to struggle. But, no tarps, no food warehouses, no throwin 15 straps and 40 edge protectors in the rain. No lumpers or load brokers. Usually operating off the beaten path and in pretty countryside rather than stuck in urban interstate traffic jams with DOT all over every single day. Doesnt seem like a bad way to eek out a living. I like the woods and mountain twisties myself. Ive heard of by the load, by the hour, by the ton, by the board foot and by percent on hauling timber so youll have to investigate. -
Loads pay by the ton mi. What ever part of GA. you are living in now just go to nearest paper plant or wood yard then go to nearest fuel stop and eat lunch a few times a wk. and just talk and listen to the haulers, they will have a board with crews looking for trucks to haul for them but a lot of them are using chip trailers that use clean chips to make paper and the dirty chips that they run their power plant with, they unload on diff. sides of mill ?
ChevyCam Thanks this. -
