Was curious what kind of freight rates are out there for the elusive tanker O/O. Are there any decent companies you can lease your own truck onto under their authority (think landstar but for tanker) If your a 1 truck operation, do tank washes wreck your availability for freight with wait times? Hazmat? Food grade? Tell all, I understand 2019 is being slow with rate rises, but all cumulative info from the last few years is helpful, Curious! any and all Helpful input please!!

From what I seen most tank companies are running pretty steady. I seen rates from 2.75 to 6$ a mile. Just really depends on the company one lease too. Tank washes usually avg 2 hrs for live wash out. Most companies that’s been tanking for a while drop and hook at most locational

I pull gas tankers with my own authority I have myself and 3 o/o’s working with me. I operate in 5 western states, because it’s all petroleum I don’t have to mess with washouts and stuff
Gas pays by the gallon but if you converted it to mileage it would be between 5 and 6 dollars a mile

Honestly, the tanker industry is really wierd right now. Is slower then I've seen in years, but still steady. Rates are certainly still up, but if we were busier, they would be higher. I agree with @Orange713 on rates. Out bare minimum I think is around the low end of what he quoted. And decent sized outfit will have clean tanks dropped at the tank wash unless theyou're in middle of no where. But even in bigger cities, I've had to wait to get washed out. Money wise, chemicals pay more then food grade generally. (I've never figured out why though. FG washes are way more expensive and can be a pinta) We do a little food grade and it pays well, but we end up DH back because we have limited FG tanks and they're dedicated to that customer.

Yes it’s weird. It’s like it’s wide open from all the buyouts over the last few years.

I'm not an o/o. I run tanker for a medium-sized company, and our business is BANGING!

Ever since the Christmas/New Year annual slowdown, I've only been home for 34 to 40 hours at a time, and not always weekly. (I'm a "regional" driver.)

We have 2 o/o 's who run for us. They say "Hi" , get fuel, get a trailer, and get gone.

Same with the other company drivers. Thirty drivers at our terminal. I've been here a year, and met two.

Door-slammers say freight is down. From what I see at the places I load, it's rock-n-roll in the tanker segment!

What do you haul? What region? What type of tanker?

There is a local chemical company I know of that can’t find enough trucks and I’d love to get a tanker and serve them but with no prior experience I have no idea where to start.

I need to find an ol tanker hand that can advise and teach us what to do and not do from A to Z.

Maybe chemical pays more then food grade due to differences in insurance coverages?

    Food grade "Midwest Regional"....
Based in Cincinnati, worked 22 states, out to ND, WI, east to MA, NC, TX, and points in between.

They give me dispatch, and get outta my way. If I gotta truck, this is how I want to do it.

This made me curious about much were getting per mile since we're paid by the barrel. Depending on the field it's $4-5.77 a mile.

    I'm ok with this
