    OH, Noooooooooooooo.:D

Well, most of my shippers load me with their pump.

Most of the drops are MY pump.

When I did chemical, we had a lot of "air offs". Not as common in food grade, and can't be done with flammables.

Completely depends on what you haul. Some products are just a cold water rinse & dry, hot water rinse & dry, detergent hot water rinse & dry, caustic wash & dry and then there's food grade washes. Once you haul chemicals, food grade is out. (Unless you jump through a lot of hoops and even then it's going to depend on what was hauled) Food grade is food grade and chemical is chemical. Usually food grade tanks are setup slightly different. Sometimes the hose tubes are inside the rear box and sealed.
There are multi compartment tanks, either 3, 4 or I've seen 5 also. Each has its own internal & external valve so products can't mix. Personally I'm not a fan of multi compartment loads, they take forever.

$150 - $750. Depends on what you want done. Chemical $150-250. Food grade $300-500 and kosher $400-$750. Company charges the cost back to either the shipper or the customer if it's a customer pu.
Since you're a van guy, a normal load tender is:
    Linehaul
    Fsc
    washout
    Tolls
+ Accessorial charges ( 40'+ hose, pump/air, intransit heat or multi stop, of site scaling, drumming nozzle)
+ any dmrg at the pu or delivery
That's on both contact loads & broker loads. And if we document the times we get paid detention.... Always. Or we never haul another load for that broker again. (Try that on the van sideo_O )

I sure appreciate all of the help guys. A LOT of questions I’ve had for a very long time have been answered. It seems like tanker work is one of the greatest kept secrets in trucking and it’s hard to break into.

From what I’ve learned you can’t haul chemical and food grade in the same tanker. They are a little different has been said. What about when you go to buy a used tanker how do you know if it’s a food grade or a chemical tanker? One would hate to get them mixed up unknowingly. Thoughts?

Any trailer that hauls hazmat has to meet mc codes for the product intended for example gas tankers have to meet mc306 or mc406 codes depending on the year of manufacture so if your looking at a trailer and the manufacture plate doesn’t have a mc code on it your not going to be running any chemicals down the road with it
