Any O/O who just use their truck as an excuse to travel?

I make passive income from other sources other than trucking and hope to increase that income even more. I was wondering if you know of any owner operators who park their truck and just drive every week or so? Because my plan would be to focus on my other business and when I am bored I can call up a broker and say I want to deliver a load from my city to a place I want to go to and be gone? Then after I unload I can stay at a hotel and rent a car in the new city and when I feel like returning I hop in my truck and leave? Basically it would be like a personal RV but instead I would get paid to take loads to places I want to be. Do you know of truckers who do this or do all of them just drive 5000 miles per week nonstop? Because I can make the same amount of money or more working from home than driving. I just got tired of being home all of the time working nonstop but a break to drive every now and then would be fun.

If I understand you correctly, you mean leasing from a company? I meant owning my own truck and doing everything on my own without having the man on my back.

Thanks but my main question was to know if any owner operators just drive every now and then instead of nonstop. I could stay home for two weeks and make good money, then hop in my truck and visit places I like, then come back, work on my business again and repeat the same process to mix things up.

Insurance is 6-10k/year, plates @ $2500/yr, highway tax $550. those are the major recurring expenses, but lots of pesky smaller expenses that require your time and attention. IFTA, NM, KYU, NYHUT, and Oregon fuel/mileage taxes every quarter. UCR, annual inspections, drug consortium requirements, medical card, TWIC, keeping a daily drivers log whether driving or not, etc... finding a safe place to park the thing if you aren't going to be around.

Then we can start talking about repairs, tires, etc...

I really think if you want to sort of be a wanderer, you'd be better off to just pay the gas and go in your personal vehicle.

Yeah those costs don't really concern me. Plus I am sure me getting paid for the load offsets those bills a little and my business can cover the rest of the costs.

Well, yah, if you don't mind losing money then go buy a truck for real man. I'm just telling you it would be way cheaper and less time consuming to just put gas in your car. You want to shell out 50-100k for a truck and 15k/year and a few hundred hours of your time to save a couple hundred on gas, go for it.

The amount of income from a leisurely "once in a while" freight haul, would be "microscopic" in comparison to your expenses.
Therefore it begs the question... Why even bother with a semi? Why not just use your plentiful money to buy a motor home?
