Your right, and I am pretty picky and usually take higher rate short haul loads to net more; but these hobby truckers take the few high rate long haul loads that are too rare. You will find a lot of these guys with big house sleepers waiting around for a cherry no tarp military load. It pays good, but not good enough to sit a week waiting for it. Most of those guys are retired with pensions. They need to go home and enjoy that pension that most of the younger generation will never have. We MUST work; they don't. There's a difference in that vs. running around to breakeven at cheap rates.
Any O/O who just use their truck as an excuse to travel?

I guess I'm kind if a hobby trucker. I'm now leased on and work a little bit, then take off. Since thanksgiving, I've only averaged 1 load per week. I did pull 3 loads one week and 2 loads once.
i like my setup. Being leased, I do not have to worry about taking care of "my" customers when I want off. I did just buy a new to me truck so I'm going to hustle to pay it off.
i guess me working from time to time is how I got the handle "Part Time" -
yeah and the ones with military oensions dang well earned them, something any young person has the opportunity to do. only 1 per cent of the population ever serve, even less serve 20 years.
if he has a big house and a military [pension, he has earned the right to sit and pick cherry loads. but the military freight aint no better paying than anything else these days -
I have nothing against military service to defend our country. I thank and congratulate them.
Also, yes, these hobby truckers all have the right to cherry pick and work part time. However, I also have the right to speak on things that I dislike. Don't confuse what one has a right to do with what is right to do!Last edited: Jan 12, 2014
