I have 5 years driving flatbed truck across the country but I have not drive truck since 2010. So I decided to go to diesel mechanic school and I found out the job out there don't pay good. I got all my endorsement and I will to go any where as long there is good job that would even train me driving a tank. would most company require recent experience to apply for job? Thank folks for taking time and look up my threat and I will appreciated for any respond.

Schneider will probably hire you for their tanker division. Probably send you through their refresher course, then tanker school. They have tanker work all over.

FFE also has refresher & oilfield tankers in Midland, TX.

    Jrdude5 Thanks this.

mike-Like EZ said-you shouldn't have any trouble finding work-I didn't get whether you went to diesel school or just checked into it. I do winch, vac and heavy haul, and fill in as a heavy duty field mechanic and I have to say that turning wrenches is not my first choice of jobs, but it has opened a lot of doors for me. The oilfield is hard on equipment (and people) and there is always something to repair. The pay seems to be on par with driving, or better (although I do furnish my own service truck). Anyway if you ARE wearing both hats it should be a cake-walk, if not-with your driving experience alone you will do fine! Good Luck!

Thank you Wymon for your warm respond. I graduated from Automotive and diesel mechanic in Universal Technical school. and most entry level technician don't pay good so I am think about getting into oil field and find a good job paying.

i would start calling company's as long as you have trucking experience most oil field company's don't care so much about time out of a truck than otr company's. if you can drive have a valid cdl and med card and good employment history you stand a good chance of finding a job. get a year or two of oil field experience under your belt and even more doors will open.

I know they are looking for diesel mechanics in the permian basin. It's in high demand, I can't see the pay being that low, but eh? As far as driving jobs go here, there are only a couple hundred available.
