Well...here's what I know so far:

How are they getting me to orientation?
A: Me an another driver from GA will be meeting. They are renting us a car, but the fuel is on us to get there. They will then reimburse us when we get there. The same goes for meals during the trip up.

    How do they pay?
A: Not positive as of yet, but I believe I was told .36-.44/cpm loaded and .20cpm empty. Plus, if I remember correctly I think it was $15 for any tarp load. Most of which are only 4' tarps for steel bar, which is often your back-load.

Need a TWIC card? (TWIC - is a Homeland Security issued access card to the borders and ports)
A: They often deliver loads to the ports (Savannah and Baltimore). I currently do not have one, so hopefully they'll help me with this. I know they have a terminal in both Baltimore and Augusta, so this shouldn't be a huge issue. I can just drop the loads at their yards and the local guy can take them in. Of course, I'm just guessing on that last bit.

I will definitely keep everyone posted as this new trucking adventure begins. I had a pretty good thread, when I started with Roehl Transport. Told everyone about my adventure, from Roehl's trucking school, to the time spent with my trainers, to the first few loads I hauled on my own.

We'll see how this goes. I'm easy to please...as long as the $$$ is there, and I get decent home-time.

Can't say about working for them personally, but we contract with them and seem like an ok bunch of guys in my book. Equipment looks decent enough, but that isn't the tale of how they are for their drivers. I mainly deal with two guys at Tennant(Dan or Chris) and they are totally awesome to work with.(Have them in my speed dial) So my guess is that they would be the same for their drivers.

I don't want to sound like a recruiter because I'm definitely not but if they don't pan out give TMC a call nothing but good to say about them. Good equipment awesome home time and great pay. I put in five yrs with them and if I ever start driving again ill go right back. Just some food for thought.

Where to begin... well, orientation was pretty typical. Went through policies and procedures, safety and securement, and of course the physical and road test. I passed all with flying colors. This part wasn't what you wanted to hear about...

So the first thing my buddy (he came up with me from GA) and I noticed, was the family style friendship and care. You were made to feel right at home with Tennant. Called by your name, not truck#...it felt good. They paid, housed, and fed us each day. That helped, concidering I'd been unemployed for a month.

Kevin is a great instructor, and has been with Tennant since the beginning. He was a driver too, so you didn't get the 'textbook' answers. Aaron Tennant (President and son of owner) spoke with us, again we were part of the team, but treated as family. He to did, and on occasion still does pull loads. He has big plans to change the governments view on truckers and today's trucking industry.

...we, my buddy and I, had been looking for a company and a paycheck...but what we found was a home...

The last day of orientation, I got under a two stop load. I felt a little pushed at first, since I'd been in class all day. But, they gave me plenty of time, basically a day and a half to go 460mi. My fleet manager kept in touch with me, to make sure I didn't have any issues. I delivered both drops on-time, safely and legally. Then I shutdown for the weekend.

...So here I am in Fargo, ND...awaiting my next load, with a full 70hr to start on. My fleet manager said the plan is to get me home this weekend. We'll see how things pan out.

Awesome. I hope you keep posting as I will follow you. Hopefully it works out for ya. Would it be possible for you to post any pictures of the loads that they do since that is why I am interested in Tennant? I know that they mostly deal with farm and construction machinery.

The only other question that I have is what is their home time policy?

Here was my first load. I don't know a thing about farming, so don't ask me what it builds. I know the parts made two of the things. Heh...I don't have to know what it does, I just have to get it there.

As for Tennants hometime: I guess they average 14-18 days out. If you live one of their major lanes, you could stop at the house as often as loads permit. If you have a 'valid' reason to get home within a short time, they will do their best to accomadate.

GI, do you know if they orientate out of Baltimore or just IL? I checked their website out but it doesn't list too much info. Thanks.

As far as I know, they only hold Orientation in Orion, IL. When they open their new home terminal in Colona, IL...that will become the new orientation location.
