I wouldn't own a truck unless I had the tools & a space to work on it.

We do almost all of our service/ maintenance work ourselves, of course all warranty goes back to the dealer, then when they get done with it and turn in the warranty p/w, we go and fix everything they screwed up.

I have always had to work on any equipment that we use here on the farm. So Yes I have my own shop. The only stuff I cant do is the electronic diagnostics. I am going to get ET software for the trucks as soon as I find one I like.

Every dollar saved can be spent where its needed worse doing all the upkeep you can wIth what you have, adding more to do it with as you can is money well spent. Knowing which joobs may beyond your comfort level and letting a top notch shop handle those can sure save money in the long run and goes a long way toward getting advise on the jobs you never done before but can easily be done or borrowing special tool it makes no sense for a O/O to own. Keep in mind the better your shop gets the more buddies you will havem

Well, as BAHA pointed out, one does what one must do. I started out working on my truck in the dirt drive way. Then, I saved enough to throw some road base, then a slab, then a small barnish looking building thingamajig. Lotsa times it's a great excuse to buy cool tools like a mig w/spool gun, the torches, compressors etc. Buuuuuuuut, believe it or not, I usually throw a cardboard down right where the truck is parked and slide under it. No joke.

I rent a place to keep my truck (inside a steel shed) when I am home, along with that comes a heated shop with most everything I would need to work on the truck.
