Hi guys, first post since joining the site.
Am soon to graduate from school and am interested in Magnum out of Fargo, but haven't seen anything said or posted anywhere on here about them.
Anybody have any knowledge about them that you could share?
Any opinions about "Magnum"?

I'm gonna guess that you found your way here from a fishing site,....Glad you made it,.....How's school so far???
And what does Burr have to say about their freight??? -
JLD,
Check page 2 and you'll find my post asking about Magnum. I just graduated school and hope to be in orientation with Magnum next week. I'll also attempt to PM you.

As for school, I had a minor set back, medical stuff, but am back in stride and working at it. Set to graduate first week of Feb., thus my enquiry about Magnum. Have talked to several recruiters from different companies and not liked the sales pitches I've been hearing, so Magnum is still at the top of my short list.
Burr was helpful, and gave me positive feed back. Don't think it will hurt me if I have someone on the inside at the company pulling for me.
Hopefully everything will work out just fine. -
Have you looked into any local carriers near you,.Fuel,Propane,.Grain,Milk,..ect??....
Maybe look up a member hear that goes by the handle of "Pathfinder",..He lives over in MN north of you a bit and drives for ATS,....He can usually be found over in Broncriders thread over in the Owner Operators section,...Feel welcome to stop in over there,....You'll find a pretty good bunch of yahoo's that might some answers for ya,...(depends on the question)....lol..ve
And your right having Burr on the inside at magnum can't hurt ya,..... -
I just got out of Magnum orientation and am waiting for a trainer to be available, was told maybe Saturday. Thru the whole orientation they seemed pretty good, if a little cheap, paid hotel, breakfast free at hotel, lunch at school, but you had to buy your own dinner. Had your own room at the Super 8. No pay for orientation. Nice trucks, good trailers, mostly refrs seemed to be well run and freindly place, then at the very end they made the 2 of us who were noobies sign a thing that if we didn't stay a year we would have to pay $100 for every month that we left before the year was up. Thought about not signing, but my only other sure choice right now was Warner.
Left a really bad feeling after 3 good days.
They seem to have plenty of frieght, looks like almost all of the drivers are getting at least 10,000 miles per month, some over 12,000.
Good luck on whatever you decide to do! -
fuzzface,
I'm curious about the agreement you were asked to sign regarding the $100 per month if you don't stay a full year. What did they call the agreement or what did they give as the purpose of the agreement? I've never heard of anything like this with any carrier. Unless they were paying/reimbursing for your school or something, how did they justify the agreement?
Thanks,

Ironrydr,
They paying us $.01 per mile pay back school. They said that it was for the cost of training. That is training with there truck driver. If they would have told us before we went to orientation that would have been one thing, but to wait until after 3 days of orientation, road test and getting our Id's etc. Then spring that was a bit underhanded. -
Just realized that the $.01 per mile might be unclear. That was a completly seperate thing then the $100 per month for training. In spite of the dirty trick at the end of orientation they still seemed like a good company, that just seemed out of bounds.

fuzzface,
I was recruited to Magnum by the manager of their terminal in Greensboro, NC. I'm supposed to be in orientation beginning January 26th. I was supposed to be there this coming Monday, the 19th, but they called and set it back one week because they currently have no trucks available.
Immediately after reading your post about the $100 per month this morning, I emailed the G'boro mgr and basically asked 'WTF', but I haven't heard back from him yet. In fact, if he tells me that I'll have to sign the same form, that might well be a deal breaker for me.
Any word yet if you'll get with a trainer tomorrow?
