I've only got 24k in the box and Payson is about 620 miles from where I'm overnighting in Amarillo. Just wanna make sure there is parking there before I go that way. Company routing to Phoenix is thru Flagstaff but a good bit longer.

Well I just looked at my Truck Atlas for Arizona and see why they are sending up through Phoenix, There is no real way in there coming off of I-40 where are you taking the load? dropping down 17 from Flagstaff should be pretty easy with the light load, just watch the signs, I think if you cut off of 17 in Camp Verde and went east towards Strawberry then off the rim into Payson it should be pretty good road, there may be some grades that will slow you down going that way but all the way into Phoenix and then back up is not very good either! There should be parking in Payson, The Troopers up there are pretty friendly and also the Town Cops are nice, They should be able to guide you into a safe place to park. That is the best I can do for now! Good Luck! Drive safe!

I'd be more concerned with are they going to pay you all of those additional miles to Payson to go via PHX, from AMA if they are "asking you" to go via PHX. There are a few wide spots in the road going through Payson as I recall that would be within walking distance of various stores.

Unless you drive for a PHX carrier who wants you to go through and get fuel before continuing on to Snowflake from Payson

Load is from Evansville, In to Phoenix, Az. I have ran Snowflake to Phoenix a few times before heavy and passed thru Payson. I just never needed parking in Payson before.

Negative. I've passed through Payson on the way to Phoenix before and it's really not a truck route, but it's still manageable. Lot of steep grades and a few really sharp curves. However, the scenery is absolutely gorgeous!!

Apparently my original post is misleading.

seems like it was only 60 extra miles and 2 hours shorter to stay on the freeway. but at least you got truck parking at the truckstop in flagstaff. 1 scenic view area and 2 rest areas on the 17.

Use the website www.findfuelstops.com to locate places. It does not have all the truckstops in the world, but it is a big help. I downloaded Pilot's on a excel wordsheet, alphabetized per state, and city. I add ones that my husband has used in an area. Also google maps if you are using a computer can have the major truckstop name put in the address finder for whatever city and if there is in there it will pull it up for you. You can also star them now which is a big help for some of the odd ball eastern states that are hard to find a truckstop in.

Sorry about the size and boldness of the print, I copied and pasted some of it.***

There are ones in Phoeniz, also, but since you may not go that way I didn't post them. Have you called the customer to find out if they have parking in the area, or if you can park in their lot, that would be great if they did.

There are a couple of other little ones in the area also on 40. But I did not find any in Payson any closer except there is supposed to be a Shell at Mayer, AZ

14925 N Stagecoach Trail (google pulls it up as S though ) Phone # (928) 632-4521, I would call first and find out, the map when it was done has it there and some construction going on in the area.
