About 1.5 years ago I drove through Payson on my way to Phoenix and parked on a side street next to the Walmart in Payson. It is a dead end street on the North side of Walmart with entrance to their docks as well if I remember right, so you can get turned around. Just zoom in on Google maps and you will see it. The address is 300 N. Beeline Hwy, and it is only half a mile from where you will be coming through town.

I live in Payson. That dead end street is marked no parking, now.

However, you can park at the Walmart, but keep it to the far south side of the lot. Also, there is an empty lot on the West side of 87, south of the 260 intersection that I am seeing a lot of trucks parking at these days. I have seen trucks parking at the north part of the front of the Best Western parking lot also, but I would check with them. There used to be CTI trucks there all the time, but it is north bound, not south bound. South of Payson, past the casino there is a large brake check area on the sweep of the large curve before the speed limit goes down to 55 and you drop off the hill. That is a nice quiet spot.

All in all, there are plenty of places to park in or around Payson. Enjoy the beautiful scenery, and the brisk cool nights (getting into the lower 50's or upper 40's at night, but pleasant in the mid 70's during the day). I've lived here/there for 10 years now, and love it. I work where I work, but will live where I want to live.

    Hope I helped. :)

If you have a smart phone you should download the app Truck and Travel. I used that when I worked for Schnieder and it is a great app.It has all truck stops , rest areas, low clearances, weigh stations,it even shows walmart parking, it has every state and within the states it has all the city's where all the stops are at, how many parking spots they have and what kind of facilities are there. It also gives mileage from the point at which you are looking at the info., and also directions.

I called Wally today and they are ok with parking on the south end of store so that is where I sit. It only took 1:40 to make it the 96 miles from the Holbrook exit of I-40 to the Payson Wally. Sunday with only 24k in box made that possible with my 62 mph ride. There was a driver at the bottom of that 6 mile 6% grade smoking up a storm.

The run from Payson down to my Consignee in West Phoenix was 96 miles and took only 1:41. Arrived just before 05:00. so very little traffic. This leg had Alot of 6% grades. Mostly down hill. The 192 mile route from Holbrook to Consignee took only 3:21 by going thru Payson. The route would have been 240 miles had I gone thru Flagstaff. I doubt that I would take it grossing near 80k but light it was fine. Reversing the route would be mostly up hill and slower.
