I want to sign up for Roehl.

    1. I am just concerned about BMI rating. I know some companies automatically boot you at the physical if your BMI is too high. I'm built like an offensive lineman. I can still run and lift. But I have a concern in that.

    2. I'm also concerned with 'room and board' arrangements. I notice they aren't covered in the fees, which I would need 100% financed. Well naturally if I am coming to you needing my training financed, one would assume I probably can't pay for a hotel for however long it is. How would they feel if I slept in my Trailblazer in the parking lot? lol I am dirt poor.

    3. I've been out of work since June, looking and turning in applications left and right, but due to having a degree, I think I have been over qualified for a few. I'm sure retail stores laugh when they see me applying there, thinking "yeah right, as soon as something opens up in his degree, he's gone...not hiring him". I used to drive in the military. I do love the work. I'm just worried about the not working for half a year and whether that would ding me for some reason. Apparently swift wants a notarized letter explaining why, if you go with them.

    1) I don't recall BMI being a factor, just that you have to be able to pass the "stress-test," which isn't all that stressful. As long as you can get under a trailer, without touching the ground, you should pass. A recruiter can answer this better than I can though.

    2) The hotel was paid by Roehl for the experienced drivers, not sure about the school. Ask a recruiter about this one as well, to be sure.

    3) I'm pretty sure they will understand. Just be honest, and you should be fine. Swift requiring a notarized letter is a bit extreme, lol, considering they hire (at least they used to) just about anyone with a pulse that can pass a DOT physical.

    Hey Ranger,

Headed to Marshfield in a couple weeks to do a refresher course since I've been off the road for several years. Going through all the pre-employment I selected Flatbed National since I use to pull skateboards when I was driving. My home is outside of K.C. Missouri. Can you give me any insight to the flatbed lanes going through Missouri that Roehl has? For that fact any information on the Flatbed fleet would be great! Much appreciated

So I'm not Ranger (don't worry about that) but KC area isn't really the hottest are to run for flat. There were some accounts from Chicago to let's say Heston, KS. But getting home time in that area could be rough some times. Be sure to be in constant communication with your FM and let remind him that you need to be home. The planners for the areas MO, KS, and AR work well together and will try to work with you to get your home time. If you are not looking for extended time at home you might be able to load thru with something headed to TX, but TX sucks for reloading (or at least thats how I remember it). If you are looking for some vacation time it might be best to try to take a van or a reefer load to get you closer to home, you should be able to relay in the KC yard. Only bad thing is, if you take a van or a ref in you usually have to take one out. If there are extra flatbed trailers in the yard and the planners likes your FM and he begs enough, you might be able to snag a flat and run. Oh and carry tire chains. Probably wont need them, but some Van driver will always be needing them. It's good to help them out, and next time you get thru Marshfield, Gary, or Kaukauna get more tire chains. That's probably decent advise, if you can't follow it I don't blame you. Good luck.

Thanks Meltom for the advice. I'll take all I can get. As far as getting home, my kids are all but grown now, only one left in school. The only thing I'm really worried about is 1. Getting to my reserve (military) weekends in Youngstown once a month and 2. I'd like to get home at least one weekend whether I haul through or not. (I always did enjoy getting to Texas or out west when I use to drive. :biggrin_25515: ) Anyway, much thanks and if anyone else would like to chime in I'd sure appreciate it and gladly share my chains. :)

I am very interested in Rhoehl and am not afraid of the truth about trucking. I was wondering about the "waiting list" that I am hearing about with some companies and what to expect for a realistic rotation if I am OTR. i am hearing anything from 17 days out with 5 days off, to 25 days out with 34 hours off.

There is a post about home time on here somewhere. but it's all standardized, for x numbers of days out you get x number of day (24 hour periods) off. it's pretty mu 7/2, 11/3, 18/4, 25/5 30/6 and it quits counting but I'm sure it could be negotiable.

What percentage "wash out" over this silly agility test thing?

So, on day one, they see if you are an Army Ranger still or not. What happens if you don't cut the gym class-- you go home with no refund for the cash, expense and trouble you went through to get to that point?
