my cascadia I can stand up in and I am 6'2 I could even stand up in my comlumbia too...the sleepers aren't the largest things in the world...but Roehl at least opted for the larger sleepers in the freight shakers and the IH's (not the white ones though...they got the small ones) floorspace in the back is relative...you sacrifice storage for floor space...whats nice about my cascadia is the espar heater is in the cabinate stack rather than underbunk so i have space under my bed to put stuff plus I have lots o cabnets to squirrel stuff away in...the older trucks have nets on the cabnets instead of doors...the beds a twin I think (i don't know bed sizes except king and queen lol)...and the front of the truck has alot of space...what I am thinking you were in was a KW T660 or W900 cause I know they don't have alot of room up front...but they are ohhh so sweet to look at..
When the recruiter tells me the National fleet is 11 days out/3 days home, will it actually be 11 days or closer to 17 days? Also, is the 3 days 72 hours? Thanks
The 11 is 11 to 14 days, (or whenever they can get you something going the right way) and yes hometime is hours, not days. Your FM has alot to do with how much time you get home. Most of mine were pretty good about an extra half day or more on alot of occasions. If you get a noob FM that is trying to do things "by the book" that might be an issue. If your time at home is that important to you, then DO NOT drive truck OTR. I was a trainer for several years, and that is the hardest part of the job for most people to deal with. I have seen many times where 11 days turns into 3 weeks, or more, often times you are just in the wrong place to get a load going the direction you need to go. There are also places where Roehl just doesn't go much, and if you happen to live away from one of their major freight lanes then it is much harder to get home.
Thanks for the info. Hometime is important. I have a child on the way in April. Right now I am weighing the national against the Hometime 7/4-7/3. Currently, I live in southern Illinois but will be relocating to Toledo, OH in 6-12 months. Basically, I want to get a year of experience under my belt as painlessly possible in order to open better local or regional opportunities. I am heavily leaning toward the 7/4-7/3. Just worried it won't be enough money.
Why don't you just go LTL right from the start? Start on the docks and earn your way into a seat. Never sleeep anywhere but your own bed. Going OTR for a year does not open as many local doors as you think.
I tried going with Conway but I have been unemployed for the past 2 years so they won't talk to me. I have tried applying with some companies in Ohio, I can't get anyone to return a phone call or email. I am to the point that I just need income. 7/4-7/3 will do that and get me home.
7/4-7/3 will be OK money I'm sure....see my thread on 7/7. The problem will be like mine and that is though the miles and pay are decent, you'll hit & miss the pay cycle. All this means is one week your eating chicken & the next feathers. So all or most of your miles will show up every other check. It might be a little less severe on the 7/3 fleet....
Thanks. I have been keeping up with your thread. Hope all of your pay problems have been worked out. I was originally concerned about alternating large and small checks, but I was paid just once per month at my last job. Getting paid once per month, my wife and I got pretty good at creating and sticking to a budget so that the money would last the entire month.
