Thanks bro, I haven't started yet. I asked my FM about roehl still needing flatbed trainers. He told me he'll talk to the person over training and get a packet sent to my house Monday. So I'll wait till I get home and read all the info. Then decide whether or not I do want to train or not.

    I want to, but I don't. Lol. I'm not 100% sure yet.

It takes alot to want to train, I have all the respect in the world for anyone who does. I think there are lots of people who can train others, but won't, because of the danger that comes with the job. I find the hardest part of being the trainee is the early AM driving......Doesn't matter how much sleep you get before you start, fatigue..... after you get the light after dawn....no problem.....Question....How much night driver training does Roehl require?

They don't require any. As far as I know. I would have a student 7-14 days depending on how well they do.

I'm going to do what my trainer did with me. He drove in the morning till the sun started rising then I took over. After a few days of getting comfortable driving the truck then I would start in the morning and he would finish in the afternoon.

We would split log, not run as a team, but I would come on duty about 3-4 hours after him so that we could run a few extra miles a day. His truck would go 70, but since I was a student he would only let me drive 60. I didn't mind though.

There are a lot of bad habbits I'll have to break if I'm going to teach anyone how to drive the Roehl way

Yeah, I understand the habit deal....When I test out in a couple weeks, I have to shift by double-clutching and both trainers I've had float the gears, and I'm sure I'll be floating after I get out on my own, which I'm sure all yall use, but none of you teach......I guess its a self taught skill. and the backing....explaining what you see....vs what the trainee see's can be tuff....Like I said...Total Respect.

can't team at all these days, folks.

both my students and i start our days at the same time and i stay logged on as on-duty/not driving whenever he's behind the wheel. i can drive three hours after he does eleven, but that means i'll run 14-hour days.

running at the edge, i can go through 70 hours in 5 days doing that, and then i'll have two or three days of working onduty in the red until my hours start coming back. usually it's not full 14s, though, so i don't go into the negative very far.

and dirty, roehl really needs flatbed trainers, especially if they don't smoke. some students wait two weeks for a non-smoking flatbed trainer.

Isn't that funny Dorset, figured they'd want me right back on training since I'm a non smoking flatbedder, but they want me to go through Foundations again first. My last student was 3 months before my rehire. Also 30 days from rehire.

they have rigid entry criteria that have to be followed. no matter how bad they need you, they won't bend the entry rules. it's a step you have to go through.

i had a speeding ticket a few weeks before i was scheduled for the training interviews. oops, i was taken off the list for six months. another driver was applying for trainer, was photographed at a customer loading without a hard hat. he was also taken off the list for six months. once you thread the needle, you can move on.

you both ought to do it. you'll move more slowly and inefficiently with a student, but you'll have the opportunity to make sure the people who drop off relay trailers for you prep them right.
