When u close your eyes its quite spacious. We don't drive team but we do have to drive thru tunnels, in which straddling the center line with your steers is frowned upon. Lol

Large duffle bags work best and are more malleable than hard sided suitcases but either sleep with it, stowe it, or put it in the front seat when you lay down

Thanks again Sarge! I could buy a big duffle bag. Either one will work fine for me. Right now I have a luggage case that is 22 inches wide, 12 inches deep and 32 inches high. Plus I will also be bringing a backpack with stuff in it too. I just wanted to make sure what I bring will fit either where I sleep while driving or where I sit while sleeping. I'll check out some duffle bags, I might just end up buying one of those since like you said it is more malleable.

Where im fron wal mart has a collapseable duffle bag with wheels on one end for 12 bucks. Its bigger than your average basketball gear bag.. it fit all my maps and cloths plus cb and electronics in it.. plis when ur done with it.. it collapses and can be zipped up to the size of a bible.

    Sarge,

Thanks for the thread and your efforts. If I were your trainee, here are the things I would be trying to figure out upon my arrival at NLR beyond the tricks to keeping the tarps and chains from having their way with me.

    1. Assuming this isn’t my first rodeo and I've got a handle on “the basics” (e.g. Customers and freight availability typically drives the miles I get and how often I'll get home, etc.) what tends to trip up new Maverick drivers in their first 30-60-90 days? What are the common Freakin’ New Guy mistakes?
      1. What Maverick Specific things are hard in the beginning, but get a lot easier once you sort out the Maverick Way?
      2. What are you doing lots better 6-months in that’s making more money for Maverick and putting more money in your pocket?
    2. What 2-3 things does Maverick expect from its drivers that set it apart from other companies?
    3. What else is Maverick “weird” about versus the “typical” truck company?
    4. What are the top things on the Must Do and Must Not Do lists if I'm going to succeed at Maverick?
    5. How do you know when something isn’t sitting well with the FMs/CSRs?
      1. What are the things that the FMs/CSRs won’t tell me until they get to know me?
      2. Beyond the obvious, what tends to piss-off the FMs/CSRs and what can I do to make their day?
    6. What are the secrets to staying on the good side of the shop? (The shop version of Q-5)
    7. Is Maverick more A) phone OR Qualcomm, or B) phone AND Qualcomm kind of place with regards to communications? ( “Type-A” Companies don’t care which as long as you communicate, while “Type-B” shops want a quick call followed up by a Qualcomm based ePaper-trail.
    8. As I haul my gear into your truck:
      1. What did I pack that is going to be dead weight taking up space and getting in the way?
      2. What are you betting I forgot, that will require a stop at Wally World or the truck stop
    9. If YOU were a Newb heading off to Orientation, and then out for a three week training stint, what would you do differently than your “typical” trainee
    10. What is the smartest thing a trainee has ever done while running with you?
    11. Where do trainees typically screw up? Before, during and after their training ride?
    12. What are the biggest problems/opportunities Maverick is wrestling with where new drivers can/should make a difference?
    13. Can you pick up spare fuel filters, belts, oil jugs, etc. from the shop?
    14. What's in Sarge's tool bag?
    15. (TCD) What is the company’s policy on “fingerprint loads” / lumping? (Forced lumping)

    Yeah, yeah, I get it...

...keep off the grass, slow is fast, ten under on exit ramps, ten minutes early is barely on time for all training events, and for a know-it-all, I know I have a lot to learn.

Looking forward to meeting you in person.

Can someone tell me about the Maverick Regional Southwest Flatbed Division? Where it runs and what ? Or what to expect out of Dallas Tx. Just some general info about how it works.

    Thanks

Can you tell me will Maverick hire a person with a break in driving. I cannot verify driving since 2007. I attended a cmv school in 2000 but only drove part time. I have a valid class a with double, triple, hazmat, and tank endorsements. No violations or criminal history, good employment records and valid passport. Thanks for any assistance.

Call recruiting and ask. That's a similar deal to my situation (ex-OO Meat Hauler.) and I was approved. My understanding is that for insurance purposes, unless your experience is recent (<3-years) you are classified like a freshly minted CDL and have to get at least three weeks of OTR training before sent out on your own. In my case it was worth it to get on with what appears to be a great company. YMMV.

    Good luck!

Before Sarge gets in on all of your questions there WTF-j, I will say.... just judging by your very thoughtful questions, you are exactly the kind of THINKING driver that we are looking for at Maverick. You seem to have a good grasp on how you- as a single driver of one truck, can have a positive impact for the whole company- which honestly is rare brains for most in this industry. Just by thinking of such questions shows me that you will become a great member of the team in whatever division you go into. I will let Sarge (who was my trainer- and a fantastic one too) handle all of your specific questions. If I know him- and I do- he will break down your questions and answer them to the best of his ability as soon as he has a chance to sit and thoroughly go through them. Keep up that positive attitude, you will do great.
