Well, it can go either way, but it seems to me things have really picked up quite a bit. I was supposed to launch on Saturday, but they didn't launch me until Monday. When they launched me, I didn't waste much time and got about 450 miles in the first day. Then I delivered first thing the next morning and got another 200-mile load. I delivered that the same day (got lucky Menard's was still receiving), and they sent me quite a ways to pick up the load I'm on now. I'm not supposed to have it there until Friday morning, but I'm going to see if I can't deliver it tomorrow afternoon. This load should be about 1000 miles, putting me at about 2000 miles in 4 days. I did remind my DSR that I was available for longer loads (staying out two weeks this time because of Spring Break) and I'm sick of the midwest, and apparently Pittsburgh doesn't qualify as Midwest. With any luck, I can get down to Florida before I get home--it's nice not having to work on Spring Break, but it's even nicer getting paid to go to Florida during Spring Break.

I'm the opposite of Moore - I was running well until this week. However, I agree with him on the Midwest.
yellerhammer Thanks this. -
I njust got back from 7 days out and ran 2800 miles and the week before 3000. My miles are pretty good. But I do run out of Garland which tends to allow me more miles. I ran out of Ellenwood for over a year and my miles there were never as good as Garland

Hey Bama,
I will be going to orientation on 5/26. I will be going to Gary Ind. I choose reefer also but they said I could change if i change my mind.
-
I start orientation in Gary, IN on 6/8. They told me all they have to offer for their Hometime Fleets is flatbed. Didn't want to take that but it pays .3 more a mile and more importantly it gets me home every 7 days. I can't be out 14-17 days at a time.
I heard the stories about trying to tarp in a 40 mph wind or a driving rain or 100 deg heat. I don't look forward to that at all but it was all they had.
As far as my tuition reimbursment goes, they pay back $100 for every 9000 miles you drive, and $250 at the 25,000 and 50,000 mile marker. Based on 100,000 miles driven a year, it would take Roehl about 5 years to pay back my $6000 school tuition. This was a real eye-opener for me. I thought the rate of tuition payback was MUCH more favorable than this.
Is this the industry standard? -
I know, some ######## will chime in here and say, your retired, and why are you posting on here. Well heres my input. i retired two years ago,and the last compasny I drove for was Roehl. I found them to be a good company, and I would reccomend them to anybody.I was on the 7 on 7 off program which worked out very well for me.I was dispatched out of Mrashfield,WI.and operated out of the Mogadore ,(Akron,Oh) yard.I was fortunate to be hooked up with another driver who was mostly on time and took good care of the truck. If you are just starting out remember a couple of things. Driving a truck is a job and not a paid vacation. Seems like if you are serious and pick up and deliver your loads on time, and in a friendly manner, you will get along just fine.

Don't pay any attention of someone gives you a hard time about your post just because you are retired. Everyone's opinion is welcome here, and the experienced drivers are a big help to the newbies.Baack Thanks this.

and we thank you!

While making a guess that someone will be trucking for under 1 year is usually pretty accurate, I'm going to say it's certain if you're flatbedding for anything other than the love of flatbedding. If you don't like it, you'll be absolutely miserable.
