I'm seeing people on the verge of freaking. But most of them are just over reacting. Some have good reason, not all.

I'm a bit nervous myself and I'll be okay.

But I rather like having a steady paycheck, and NOT using anything I have in savings. But, that's what it's there for.

We had a sale this past weekend at Nissan. You would NOT believe the number of idiots that were lined up to buy. We had 4 plants close down last week. Yet somebody has some money...somewhere.

being just a wannabe with a grip (limited though it may be) on economics I don't see the economy as a major slowdown for trucking. This time of the year will always be slow ( I remember my dad and grandpa cussing about it for years), but there will always be a need for the 18wheelers. People claim that products can be moved as well by train, but it isn't as true as what it seems like for the reason that even as the end a truck still has to carry it to the warehouse. I am currently looking over companies with CDL training involved, I know some people say they wouldn't do it this way, but coming up with enough for training and still paying the bills while you are unemployed for 3 weeks or more is a P.I.T.A.

Well since I got laid off in July, I really don't have much choice (I don't suppose I could spend the next 4 years on unemployment?)

But as a rookie, I figure I never really knew what the 'good times' were like, so I won't really have much to complain about.

Hopefully I'll spend much of the white & slippery months under the tutillage of a senior driver. And maybe there will be a lot of 'empites' to jog around after the holidays.

    Well I can hope, anyway.

If the whole economy goes in the toilet there really isn't much I can do one way or the other. Frankly, I'm thinking being an OTR will at least give me the oppertunity to check out different regions of the country and how the local economies are going.

Plus there really isn't a substitute for trucking (yet?), so things might get tough, but it's even tougher for other buisnesses.

I was told, flat out, when interviewing a trucking school that Heavy Equipment Opperator classes would pretty much be a waste of money because THAT industry (construction) was pretty much flat for a year already.
