Looking for tips to learn and memorize how to say properly.. I understand what we check and how,but remembering while explaining it seems to be the PITA. I've only had 1 attempt of practice ,so im in the begining stages of it. the school is telling us to only say the required items in DPS book. example , I'm checking my spare fuses and i have 3 red reflective triangles and fire extenguisher is properly rated and charged securily mounted .

They say , no need to say things about triangles not cracked or broken and other things like this cause its not mentioned in dps book.

This just seems odd considering all videos mention these things

Just keep at it man if they did not provide you a guide write down what they want.. then just work on saying it repeatedly on your free time. It will just click soon enough just keep at it.

It helps to say it out loud and repition works. It's easy to run through it in your head but I think it works better when you say it out loud.

I remember in grade school the older teachers would teach certian things (english rules) by repitition. Then, latter on, new teachers would say that learning by repitition was old school and there was a better way. I don't remember what that was or what they taught... :tard:

A long time ago, my wife brought home a bunch of stuff from some training seminar.

One was a video on how to memorize things. I thought it sounded cool so I watched it.

One technique, you just make up an action for each item you’re trying to remember, and tie that action to the next item.

The crazier the things are that you come up with, the easier it is to remember.

For example, the brake valves. You push them in, and the rushing air causes the heater control panel to fly out of the dash and embed in your forehead. You can’t get it out, so you rip off the turn signal lever to pry it out of your head.

So there you have three things you’ll never forget, and you’ll never forget what order: Check brakes, check defrost, check turn signals.

Don’t tell your examiner how you remembered it tho, he’ll might fail you for being insane :D

I memorized my whole pre-trip that way, didn’t miss a thing.

Write it down exactly as you want to say it. Then read it out loud to practice. Just do it over and over. Someone once told me if you read it, write it, and say it you’ll do a better job of remembering it.

Also some people make an acronym of it. LOCAS, COLAS... whatever works.

    You can do it!

I learn by doing. And some physical abuse for reinforcement when making mistakes in that cab from instructor.

Do something once, fair to middling, but do it enough, it's not difficult anymore.

My___________ is properly mounted and secured, it's not bent, cracked, broken, leaking, or otherwise in poor condition.

Memorize that and just plug in anything you need to identify. Everything from the alternator to the brakes.

Oh and also in the case of doing like things where you need to point out the parts you change the verbage to "This is my alternator, it's properly mounted and secured, it's not bent, cracked, broken, leaking, or otherwise in poor condition."

I used the SALE mnemonic from some YouTube video. Static, just watch the gauges. Applied hold brake watch gauges. Leakdown pump break watch for warning light. Emergency keep pumping watch for buttons to pop.

You got lucky. They want you to explain every step. Even when you turn the key on a new truck and it runs a self test. You need to tell them you are waiting for the self test to complete, and explain that you are waiting for air pressure to build to the cut-off level, and so on, and on, and on, ad nausioum.
