It's always about the money. Every single one of us wants to make sure we take in more than we're spending, whether it's becoming a trainer or running teams for that extra $$ or cutting out unnecessary expenses or finding cheaper ways of doing things (like cooking all your meals instead of eating in diners).

Anyone that tells you they're not concerned about pay is a liar....or a millionaire who already has enough available cash where they don't have to worry about current pay because they already have plenty to fall back on in the bank.

Wow this topic must have been directed towards me :) I own a few websites that make money on their own so I would spend a lot of money traveling and figured it would be cheaper if I could explore the US without paying thousands of dollars and trucking was the answer. It worked too, I would have never visited Kansas City and although you hear some people say bad things I like the city and the people every time I get to visit there.

I live in Nashville where people are fake or just stare at you as you walk past but in other cities they are actually nice and provide good advice without expecting anything in return (which is what I do too) so I like to visit cities that actually have some good people and not just fakes and a-holes. I love trucking for the experience and the money is just extra to put in my savings account or to buy a larger house with.

My wife has not worked outside the home other than a brief period during the early years of our marriage. Mostly, she worked on one of my businesses. We have never used any of her money for bills. That was her "mad" money to spend any way she liked. Trucking has always been good to me and my family. If someone can't make a good living trucking, then you need to check your priorities. Pay is a little low starting out, but you should still be able to earn over $30,000 your first year. Within a couple of years you can be making over $40,000/year. That is not bad. I know a woman who earns almost $100,000/year and always seems to be broke. I have also known some who make considerably less who seem to manage very well. If you think you need every new toy that comes along and don't know how to manage your money, you will have difficulties making ends meet no matter how much you make. With the salary you earn as a driver there is no reason the spouse should need to work in order to support the household.

This trainer is over extended. Through his own mismanagement, or unforeseen issues that blind sided him.

My ex is a Nurse...thank me very much. I will warn you, Nursing school, truck driving, and a couple of children will stress the hell out of everyone involved.

If you have small children, with no family to help you locally. You're most certain to take longer than usual to complete nursing school. Once you get into clinicals, the stress will be tremendous. As will the resentment toward your husband NOT being there.

I'm always concerned about money. But NOT for the reasons you've described. My entire family is anal about money. We never had anything as children...so it's easy to see why.

My household income has dropped 75% since 2003. This is a choice we (the wife and I) made together.

Many people bust their butts all their life, only to lose their life before they get to enjoy it.

I find it impossible to retire with a million in the bank. Simply because I've been unable to find such a person who races dirt bike, and has 23 year old hot babes chasing him down a sandy beach.

As long as I'm eating and my bills are paid. I'm good. In today's economy.... I am "The Jones". I set the standard in my own life. I don't look at others, and wish I had more.

My mom retired on $1200 a month. And lives rather well considering all things. Does she go to Cancun every year? NO. But she does enjoy herself in a manner that fits her income.

The amount of money a person NEEDS, is based solely on a persons ability to manage said money.

Not trying to discourage you. Just providing you knowledge from experience.

You need to sit down with family, and talk this over....before you start. While they may be all good. And proud that you're going to nursing school.

NOBODY is prepared for the amount of time that you will be asking for their help. Especially the children.

Clinicals can quickly turn into 15 hour days, 5 days a week. Add the required paper work....

AND !!! Your school will NOT give a rats ### if one of your kids are sick. I honestly believe they pray your children get sick, to increase the chances of you having to extend your schooling by at least another year. Mo money.

I could make more somewhere else but then I would lose the small company atmosphere and become just a number they will keep out for 3-4 weeks at a time.

Some people can live on what others throw away. It's a lifestyle. Some people stay broke and some can make a good living on very little. Truckers are not known to be the sharpest tack on the wall. Some making 60grand are living ocean front. Some making 100k plus are in trailer parks wondering if their clothes is going to dry outside in the humid weather. It's the same reason a broke lottery winner is broke again.
