I worked the trade shows in Manhattan for 17 years for a trade show logistics company out of NJ and seen upstaging there a lot for shows in the city, nice trucks always clean. Clark Transfer I think was another entertainment hauling company that was similar. Talked to one of the upstaging drivers once and he loved it. He was a veteran driver with over 20 years driving and was about to quit driving and was fed up with the industry until he went to work for upstaging. He said they run hard at night to make it to the next gig and there's cash bonuses for certain things. Don't know how they do it now with elogs
I worked in the entertainment industry driving motor homes for Shooting Star Coaches in Brooklyn . My friend Ben owns the company. I worked a lot of TV commercials,CableTV shows, fashion shoots ,VH1 and
MTV,Saturday night live shoots etc. I had a lot of cool experiences doing it. Good money, tips , always catered food, put you up in hotels for multi day shoots .a lot of hanging out and making sure the generators and everything was working right. I helped on some shoots ,but it wasn't mandatory. It was all freelance work. I let them know when I was available and they would book me for jobs. I would sometimes make $600 -$700 a day with tips, but they were very long days. Music videos were the worst they went around the clock. I did a few music videos with Jennifer Hudson,Michael Bolton ,a bunch of rappers I didn't know who they were and a lot of European singers I had no clue who they were. All the hanging around and making conversation can be tiring believe it or not. You can't go to sleep while everything is going on even though I would just take a nap in the drivers seat every now and then. I haven't done it in a while since moving upstate NY ,been too busy and it's a 4 hour drive from my house to Brooklyn where the coaches are . I tell you one thing ,I'm a lot more comfortable driving
Tractor trailers in Manhattan than those coaches. I had to put those coaches down some skinny streets and areas I would never take a truck down.
Any Upstaging company truck drivers?
