Any way to shut off my engine fan?

I myself had that problem with rpms dropping fast when the fan was on, then realized i was shifting to slow, maybe try shifting a little quicker......Good luck!

Seriously? You seriously think NOT having a fan idling through a parking lot is going to smoke an engine? If your truck is heating up over 220* at idle then the fan working is the least of your problems.

"auto" and "on" is not OFF.

I did use Cat ET to shorten the time it automatically runs when you start the truck. I also turn off the A/C or manually turn the fan on before I get to the dust. That way it is less likely to come on when I'm there. It's very hard to keep a truck/trailer clean. Glad I don't carry a gun when I see an idiotic steering wheel holder screaming through the dirt when there are 10 O/O's in the same lot that actually care about their stuff.

 

My fan sticks 'on' sometimes - turning the a/c off resets it.

 

Going through a dusty lot, shutting off the AC will turn the engine fan off if the engine isn't hot hot. They are tied in together. I always do that when coming out of a truck wash to keep from blowing dirt everywhere until the truck dries. The same with any dusty dirt lot.

Look at your switches too. Some trucks do have a manual fan override switch as a factory accessory. I've had two trucks in the past that had one. You usually use one climbing a hill heavy and your gauge is rising. Chances are you don't have one if in a mega fleet truck.

In this heat a fan is going to want to run more than usual.

Like someone else said, keep up with your radiator. Summer time they will get covered and clogged with dust and lose some cooling efficiency. Have your shop clean it out. Some shops will get mad if you are a company driver and attempt it. It's very easy to bend the fins if you aren't careful.

 

Boss mans Peterbilt has a continuous on switch but no cutoff. It has a mind of it's own.

 

I have never seen a manual off switch, for a fan, in over 30 years. Many have a manual on, but not off. Most of the time, especially at low speed, the fan isn't coming on because of engine heat, but high head pressure in the air conditioning system.

 

Is this a serious question? Is the fan on all the time? If so, your have a problem with the system. If the fan is just going through it's normal cooling cycle for the engine or A/C, then consider learning to properly drive your truck.

 

What kind of truck do you drive? Maybe it's the always on/ auto switch. The T660 I drive has a switch that you can run the fan all the time or auto, but not off.
