I don't see why we can't have an android app that uses the up/downlink to receive/send faxes.

  6. Before you start using a free fax service. Remember what ever information you send can and will be sold. Even efax which is a pay service,. They say they will hold info of previous faxes for a year last I knew.

Take an air of caution when using that type of service.

Camscan is a cellphone based system also check the app out. Used it for a few brokers. Don't forget people want information, any way they can get it.

I would agree with peterbilt_2005. Even I need fax very rarely, I rather pay for the service and moreover send it only with encrypted channels, if I'm sending documentation that contains any personal info (id, ssn, address etc). We live in data collection era and who knows how this information will be sold later on. I don't want to be part of it.

I figure what really stands in the way is android locking down the phone channels from things like call-recorders probably makes fax interfaces just as difficult. But it would be extremely useful if it would work over cell lines. I wonder how long it would take to set up an Android development environment and learn enough code to stitch preexisting libraries that are sure to exist for faxing together into a working application.

The fact that android is developed by Google would keep me away from that OS. But it's probably personal preferences.

I really liked the BB10 OS, but the focus of app developers were for iOS and Android. Unfortunately the new BB phones run Android, albeit a more secure version (it actually gets updated every month)...I really don't care much for it, but it is what it is.

I've never understood why, since fax machines work over the phone lines, why an app couldn't convert a document to transmit over those same phone lines. Probably just isn't much need for it, as email is just as fast and provides clearer documents. If the document is already on your phone, it just makes sense to email it.

Either pay so your stuff is secure or do everything through email and put a printer in the truck.
