I started Trucking back in the 80s. And for most of that time I ran a loose leaf log. And all this time I never hit hurt or killed anyone. So all of you new bucks who were weaned on Eld get off your high horses.

 

Ran loose leaf and lied like a rug myself since the late 80s and don't miss it ...I do however enjoy sleeping at night while being under a high revenue load that hasn't been beat into a cheap rate by people willing to work 20 hours a day and wear out a truck for sub par rates .
Currently taking a 2 week vacation on my increased revenue ...cheers !

 

I'm pretty sure, when adjusted for expenses and the cost of living, cheap loads back then, paid better than the average load does now. Almost everybody cheated. Fifteen years ago, in the south wasn't really any different than the 80s. I went for over eight years in one stretch, running over 100k a year, without a single inspection or anyone looking at my logs. I was going to make what I was going to make. So I did what I did, to get more time at home. Run your tail off two to four days, get your rest at home.

 

Learn how to be more efficient and trip plan. You log 70 hours already a week, those jobs you see that people are sleeping in a house they think 40 hours is plenty and after that some get overtime, what do you get?

The fact is, you legally have 70 hour work week. If you can't make a living on 70 hrs, then you probably are better off being a bank teller. M-F. Off by 5. Weekends and holidays off. Benefits and no Elog.
