The reality for OTR drivers is that regardless of logs, paper or electronic, there has to be a level of flexibility. It's a job in which you have to be prepared to run at any time around the clock. The people that struggle the most with this are those who are unwilling to work at any time of the day or night. If your load picks up at 8, and you say, "I can't drive at night." I'll say, "why can't you?" Plan everything around each individual dispatch. Don't get into trying to run the same hrs everyday. Plan your trips better and go to sleep every chance you get.

I keep hearing this **** about planning your trip. Planning in trucking , is like wiping your *** before you ****. You, nor anyone in this industry can plan, as we all know that we cannot predict traffic, weather, accidents, construction , D.O.T, chicken coops, roadside inspections, and so forth that has a real tendency to **** up planning of a trip. Just like the years of complaining about parking shortages for trucks, and now researching, and reading many different sources on this matter. It seems the states due to budget cuts are closing many of the rest areas in their states, shippers/receivers are not allowing trucks to stay on premises, and truck stops that have pay to park/reservations and spaces designated for such idiotic ****. I see where truck stops/travel plazas are filling up before 6pm across the nation, due to ELD's. They complained in years past about the T/S being filled up by 8pm, ELD's are making it worse on the drivers.
I have the solution. Let the driver set his/her own hours as it pertains to driving. They know when they need sleep. If they exceed their own limits, and cause an accident, fatality, or other horrific event. They go to prison, lose CDL for life, and must pay restitution to the company, family of the injured, or killed persons family, and if it is an O/O they are treated in the same manner with the exception of restitution to the company. Those pencil pushing wienies on Crapital Hill have no idea as to the job of a truck driver. Flexibility is key, but how does one explain stupidity of people behind the wheel of an 80,000 lb rolling road train? The use of illicit drugs, and alcohol abuse by drivers? Statistics have shown this is an epidemic inour country, and no one is prone from this disease.

Yeah, buy your own truck, make sure the engine is a rebuild 1999 or older. Lease on to a small fleet that does not run cameras, ELD's, lane change warning devices, and do not rely upon technological devices, and electronics to do the job. Hey there is a thought! lol

Bro......trip planning isn't about having one plan, having more than one plan, and being ready to change it due to unforeseen circumstances. You're right. There are things you can't control. The things you can control are where and when you get fuel, when you start your clock, when you travel through major cities, and when you park. Yes all the things you mentioned can derail you, but how often does DOT mess with you? How often does traffic really slow you down? I think people just want to have the same routines, you know, start at 3 or 4 in the morning so they can have a nice cozy parking spot early at the truck stop. They're the ones that wait in the long shower line between the hrs of 5 and 7 morning and evening, and they only shower at the corporate truck stops.

The question was really simple but it looks like no one here know the answer. The question the guy asked was if anyone knows how to cheat whatever ELD. If you know the answer then talk. If not keep the advices for yerself. Is that simple.
