Why would you want to work over 14 hours a day or 70 hours a week?
Why?

 

I run the NW.
I throw iron and don't hole up in a truck stop and wait on storms to pass.
I've been trucking for 31 years.
I never went to truck driving school.
I don't wear flip flops, or ride with my foot on the dash.
I used to lie like a dog on paper logs.

I'm used to ELDs now.. and except for when they very rarely make me take a break just short of the house... I'm ok with them.
I'm a SAFER driver, and a HEALTHIER driver.

I can still get it done with the best of em.. I run hard.

Outlaw is what got us here.

 

All you guys that cheated so much just flood the market with cheap labor and time. That's what good about ELDs. The drivers or companies that want to work cheap can, but now they have pay the price when the 14 or 70 hour limit hit them.

 

I enjoyed being able to make more money when I was sitting there wide awake. Any time I got sleepy I could always claim I was out of time and take a break. Sorry you have no self control

 

Run two ELD's.

JJK ELD sucks, it's like letting a lawyer do your logs for you so they cover their patoot and not yours. Move a few feet and kill a 34. Put it on PC and if you make more than one stop on your errands it puts you back on Driving. There are lots of defects, and all work against the driver and cover JJK.

The guy I worked for liked it for "compliance" which is okay if you don't want to move trucks, just let them sit and do another 34 since there is no God Mode to fix anything.

When I used it I could picture the project space where they make it; lots of empty desks, best people always quitting, etc.

JJK has a nice lock on forms and books and so forth but their ELD is frustrating crap.

Convince your employer to look at Keep Trucking, it does what it says on the can.

 

You can still make money sitting wide awake. It's called detention pay ! It was not a self control problem, You should remember, you got fired if the loads were late. Even if you had no control of that. That was the problem, they would say you make the delivery on time or you get fired. They did not care if it took 7 hour to load.

Today they care a little more because with ELDs the driver is forced to stop. You can't make up for their lack of planning or caring. They care because now the load are late. That's the good side of ELDs. They show the lack of planning other people have

 

I'm home every Weds and Sat without fail. I'd rather be home than making stupid detention pay. What a miserable way to make a few more dollars. If I sit on a dock for 6 hours and run out of time 2 hours from home, I'm heading home.
