Anyone have one of these and happy with it? Can't have a refrigerator, won't buy another POS 12V cooler, and tired of buying ice.

You will find a number in stores like Lowes etc. Around 110 dollars for the small ones off 120 volts and take about a pitcher of water and make ice in a hour or so. You would have to precool it a hour prior to. You cannot have it blocked in or otherwise working with no airflow around the sides.

So call it a gallon of water, two hours of inverter time and that should come up with pretty good ice for your day.

Make sure the ones that do not require a water line connection. Just a pitcher of water usually. And of course in winter you just need a few ice trays and set em out on the cat walk a few hours and wait.

Yeah I have one in the kitchen, my fridge doesn't have an "ice maker" because it was made in 1935 - Frigidaire custom made thing I pulled out of a huge house in Detroit.

It isn't much to look at, it takes a little over one cubic foot and is heavy. It is a power hog, prone to have the ice dropping mechanism fail because they are fragile.

I usually got about 2.5 yrs out of the 12V coolers.

using points , they ran me about $50. you can buy lots of ice for that.

keep the vents clean and not blocked.

and I idled so the ambient temp in truck never got to high.

    Yea I do.

Best purchase I made for the truck even though I do have a good size built in frig and freezer in my Western Star but I like ice in my soft drinks and water.

It’s a Frigidaire unit I bought from Lowes.

Held up real well so far for bouncing around in the truck the past 8 months.

Started to act up last week. I thought the bouncing and the inverter cutting in and out on bouncy roads because of a bad plug did it in.

Inspected it and seen it was really stained from hard well water getting ran through it

Ran some vinegar through it and flushed it and it works good as new again.

Actually had to buy a couple bags of ice while it was acting. Forgot what a pain that was.

fyi, I replaced my 20 year old 12v Igloo with a 12v Coleman. It's a struggle to keep my contents from freezing. My last cooler never got as cold as my new cooler.

When the motors or fans go bad on the 12V coolers, you can buy replacements online for a few bucks. I've never done it, but I've seen the replacements online many times, and they drop in with 4 screws.

The problem with the 12 V coolers is the cold air sinks and freezes stuff at the bottom of the cooler. Also, items placed next to the fan will freeze. During hot months, it's a struggle to keep food at food-safe temperatures. The obvious solution is to get hired on with a real company that has APU's but in the meantime I think that ice is the best solution as much of a PITA it is.

I always just had mine laid down horizontal. The only issue I had with temp is placing the milk next to the fan. After a couple days I had to move it to the other side to prevent freezing.

No my main issue was the plug overheating. In the year I was OTR I had to replace it twice on my Coleman.
