Sounds like a familiar problem with the wiring loom, particularly in the AS tronic transmissions. They will drive you bonkers until you replace the loom!

If you look at where water ingresses the loom, the copper turns into a black/blue powder and disentegrates. It's a relatively simple problem, but will cause huge downtime.

Air valves are another weak point....not too bad on motorways but they tend to fail with increasing frequency when on bad roads(not too sure why). If you open the exhaust filters at the base of the air drier,it will improve air valve life dramatically as the carbon, oil deposits, condensation is easily evacuated.

Watch out for brake discs, brake calipers and wheel bearings as well....these trucks have a large appetite for these items

all kind of imaginable problems :biggrin_255:

engines dont last to long on our roads you must rebuild man engines from 700-1000 0000km

zf gearboxes are not good like before

    lot of electrical problems

    air leak

    freezing diesel

clutch need to be exchanged from 400-600tkm

    lot of problems with bushings

with suporting arms which hold axle ( i mean V arms and other)

cab suspenision cant work here for long

most profitable truck here is mercedes cheap parts even original ones

there is lot of used parts lot of aftermarket ones and stolen ....

lot of mechanics can work with them

    easy to sale

    hold price good

there is no surprise brakedowns on them and decent quality

and yes often on our road is differential failure

our hills and high weights make problems

for example my relative have 19 460 4x2 tractor with eaton 16speed overdrive gearbox

he run 50t gross always ( both direction) on his 165km route there is no more than 5km of straight road hill hill , downhill bend , serpentine , more hill more hill downhill .....

only one hill have 9% 10km and since he is always under full throttle even with so slow transmisison ( 1750rpm at 70kmh)and differential fall apart

I run a 2002 TGA 460 XXL 4x2 ....bought it at 6 years old...it has covered over a million kms. It is remapped to 560bhp and pulls like a steam train. We have had very little trouble from it... rear torque arm bushes, cab shocks and a set of gearbox synchro hubs at 900,000kms have been the the biggest repairs to date.

We have had no electrical problems,no bushing problems,no air problems,no diesel problems, and no breakdowns...in fact we now rate the TGA as a very reliable truck. The drivers love driving it and the comfort shift is a fantastic pice of kit. It also has a very comfortable cab...both to live in and to travel in.

I agree with you about the Mercedes, most definitely an excellent truck

the further you go to the east of europe the bigger the problems - D20 is a very sensetive engine, egr and poor quality fuel is a very bad combination
    couple of pics http://www.autoreview.ru/forum/forum74/topic4870/?PAGEN_1=16
in first one is showed a sulphurous corrosion of the liner, multiple electric and electronic failures ,weak cab suspenssion you need to change the silentblocks very often
f2000 was the last realible m.a.n.

all kind of imaginable problems new generation of them works here good but old 2000-2001-2002 are crap

i know even one 510 where water enter to cylinders dont have any idea how ....but you know what happened later

so fe2000 is last good but i would also say also first good

because older mans always had problems with engines on older you need to do small engine inframe almost every year

lot of heating problems, oil consumption, water usage, smoke , not to mentioned ancient f7/8 cab which was rust everywhere and far below standards ..... but they go like hell
