I found 4 of these old Alcoa 22.5" budd wheels, had them polished and put them on my old C8000. They are 5 hole with ribs and are tubeless. I think they are 1st gen Alcoas. I'd like to find another set of them and put them on my 359. Anybody have experience with them? Any problems that were common and would not make them a good choice for an 80,000 rig? Better yet, anybody know where I can find them?

Thanks for the input. The Alcoa Retros came out in 2008 and were hub aligned. Mine are budd wheels so they are what the Retros were designed to look like. I haven't taken them off to look for any info yet. Was hoping someone would recognize them or better yet, tell me they have a set in the barn.

That's a good looking old C cab Ford. You really got the 5th wheel set forward. The wrap around shifter where you point the shifter in the general direction of the gear you want comes standard on those trucks.

Thanks. The 5th wheel is fixed just forward of the axle. That trailer is a 55' Kentucky with a 4' kingpin setback so it looks more forward than it is. Great little truck for shuffling trailers or light loads. It was being used as a yard dog at a trailer sales place so it had 11 years of less than 100 miles per year. 115K original miles. Only thing I've replaced are the split rim wheels, alternator, voltage regulator and belts. Runs like a champ and I only have $2,500 in it. It has an Allison automatic in it.

    1) Pre-1995 trucks are exempt until 1/1/15 under the Small Fleet Rule (3 or less trucks).
    2) Registered with CARB under the "Less than 1,000 miles a year" category and it's legal that way too.

Just picked up an '84 Pete 359 with 63" sleeper for $4K. Ex-farm and dirt hauler with really low miles. Just needs new rubber. I'm gonna fill it with burritos and run it for 2 years. Already have an extra 53' dry van paid for and sitting and a local customer that needs a dedicated TL for 110 miles round trip, 5 days a week pulling 12,000 pounds of display racks. Daily load from the factory to the powder coater and another from the powder coater back to the factory. How's that for ROI with CARB breathing down everybody's neck?!?!

That's why I'm on the hunt for 22.5 budd wheels. I don't feel like buying a set of tires for 24.5's since I have 11R22.5's on the trailer.

SHC and Container Hauler Thank this.
