A few guys brought laptops with them, I think they have free WiFi at the hotel. Just use though in your room and such don't bring it to class or anything.

I can't remember if we needed birth certificates or not since its been almost a year since I been in orientation, I think if they say bring it you should. Passport I think you can wait on as long as your in the process of having it.

When I was there nobody hooked up with a trainer, we all were sent home after the 2 weeks. I didn't see the need to bring a sleeping bag so I didn't, there might be a very slight chance you'd be hooked up with a trainer but I'd say no.

Also bunks in trainers truck don't have sheets or blankets, talk to your trainer what he prefers you bring, most would say sleeping bag as its easier, when you get you own truck you can use your own lines/blankets.

Some of the other guys here might be able to give more info. Good luck to ya.

yes you do need your birth cert. Sounds like the one that u have will work. also u will need ss card. as far as the passport goes they will want u to get one at some point in time but u will not need it to go with a trainer. but I bet if u have it b 4 u go with the trainer u may have a better chance to go to canada. as long as u bring everything on the list u should b fine. as far as the sleeping bag i brought mine because they said u may get paired up with ur trainer but come 2 find out 90% of the guys end up going home after orentation. but u will be filling out a form on the computer concerning ur trainer and what prefferences u want. they have a section on there for comments so u may be able to put down that u want to go out from des moines with a trainer instead of going home and waiting, up 2 u and also who they have available. if it were me I would rather get it done and out of the way. By the way I will be leaving tomorrow to go back out there and finish up orentation. so I am sure I will see u if u are starting on the 5th. if u have any other questions just let me know I will try and help u out.

Do u know why he quit? I was not in the marines but I think everybody make it out to be like that but it is not bad at all. as long as u do what u are told and follow directions there are not any problems. yes it is fast paced and a lot of stuff 2 learn but if some one can not handle that then they will not be able to handle the fast paced life on the road. Do u drive 4 tmc?

I talked with my recruiter today. He said my certificate of live birth will be fine. He also said not to worry about the passport. He said that is something I will need to get, but it's not important to have right now. Still not sure about bringing my laptop along. Will most likely just leave it at home. Do they have any kind of computer access available while we are there?

Yes there is one in the lobby, but everyone will be using it.. So you might be more comfortable with your laptop and then you can use it whenever you want, on top of that you can use it while you are laying in your own room comfortably, and not in the lobby with guys looking over your shoulder! :)

Yeah if you can bring a laptop do so, I would have but didn't have one. The lobby computer is hard to get on to most of the time. Plus I had some guys looking looking over my shoulder as eckz said while waiting, no fun when your reading personal email or pictures.

My concern with bringing my laptop is security. I know I can't bring it to any training classes, but how safe would it be in my room. I'm sure there are mades that go in everyday to clean and stuff. It would be easy to walk out with a laptop hidden on the cart.

It will be safe. Those people wouldn't dare steal or tamper with a drivers personal effects, Harrold wouldn't tolerate it.
