Yes I would say it is safe in the hotel room, I left money there before and it still there when I came back,, like $5-$10. Plus I heard the maids are told not to talk to anyone anyhow.

They don't have to talk to anyone to walk out with a laptop, money, or anything else that looks valuable. But it is good to hear that they seem to have a reliable staff and that your personal stuff was not messed with.

I think I would be more worried about my roommate than the staff. I was only in DSM for a week, experienced driver, and I had 3 different roommates. 1 I know was driver just taking 10hr break and others were students.
You might check at front desk if there is a secure location to store laptop if you are worried about it, or just don't take it. -
u can always bring a back pack and put it in there and take it with u 2 class. that is what I did with my portable dvd. But my room mate did leave his laptop in the room on the table and they came in every day 2 clean it and it was still there. I believe that anything u leave out in ur room will be ok and not messed with by the staff but u always have 2 worry about ur room mate. Who is ur recruiter? -
Newbie,
Taking it to class in a bag may work during the first week, when we are actually in a classroom, but when we are out doing the securement and driving training, it wouldn't be good to have the bag out there. I'm not real sure yet if I'm going to bring it or not. I mean, I should be able to live without it for two weeks. I do plan to bring it with me on the truck, although at this point I'm not sure how I'll be able to get online. But if nothing else, I have games on here I can play during down times. And I've been talking with Jason. -
Its nice to have a laptop as there is a test they have that you can access online even. Either do it during class time or at the PC at the hotel, but as said before that usually is packed.
Also what I meant by the maids being instructed not to talk to the students, I meant that they and the hotel are a very tightly run ship and professional, I highly doubt they would risk trying to steal a laptop. As for your roommate well thats a different story, but I'd like to think my fellow students and fellow co-workers wouldn't try to rip me off. Also its too much of a risk if they got caught. -
