Exactly, he needed to use that ramp regardless. The only reason I brought up google maps in conversation was that it would have served a purpose in foretelling the traffic jam ahead. (obviously set up in pre-trip)
More disconcerting (besides all the other mistakes made) is the fact that this young lad didn't have a good command of the English language and thus might not even have known that there was a ramp.

You have the city of Denver at the bottom of the hill, it's 4:30 in the afternoon, you're out of control down the mountain, if you need an app to tell you there's going to be traffic so take the runaway ramp I dont know what to say. I'm convinced he was way in over his head, couldn't read the signs and had no clue what a runaway truck ramp is or is for.

Yeah that is disconcerting. I'm pretty sure they have escape ramps in mexico though.

Yeah, but in Spanish, not English.
But maybe that didn't matter to him (if he understood the ramp was there), seeing as he had little value for others lives in the end and thought only of himself.

Runowayo Trucko Rampa is pretty close but I see your point. Probably couldnt read the signs telling him to use a low gear.

Yup, also he was Cuban. Probably never drove a truck in Cuba or ever seen a Spanish sign for truck ramp. Who knows? Just amazing series of **** ups to get to that tragic outcome. I'm sure we will get more details as time moves on.

He bypassed the runaway ramps when it was obvious the truck was a lost cause.
